I can't but my recollection of the events revolved around my time on CB so...I think I did listen to the wrong people. That answers that.

I'm really surprised at your interpretation of his alleged comments. Assuming the professor accurate quoted him (more or less), my reading of it was completely different.

I can't believe that you seriously think BYU would turn down a BCS invite just out of pride, and not because it's what they think is best.

BYU is having success because it's offered for free. Which the Longhorns are asking for a cost to the networks, like the MTN and Big 10 both wanted, and had to fight to maintain. They should all go cheap to prove their worth, and aim for advertising, then raise it as ratings go up. It's a gamble, but if your willing to start a network, distribution is everything to the station and advertisers.

            • Look, the Big 12 and A&M would not have agreed not to sue each other (as is pretty clear by now) if the Big 12 didn't have someone in place to replace A&M next year. Keep in mind, A&M is leaving as of next year - that's a really quick trigger. And I doubt the Big 12 is going to go through 2012 with 9 teams. Otherwise, they wouldn't have caved so easily on A&M leaving before next football season.

There are only two reasonable targets for the Big 12 who could feasibly play football in the Big 12 in 2012 without running into a lot of problems with current conference affiliation: BYU and Notre Dame.

I don't think BYU or the Big 12 are run by idiots. I think BYU's in, and if Notre Dame looks favorably on Big 12 affiliation, they'll be in at the same time Pitt can join. I suppose Notre Dame could join this year, and BYU come in with Pitt, but I think the other scenario is more likely.
If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

People and organizations are rarely aware of when their pride is the deciding factor in "what is best".

Oregon State was scheduled to play at BYU on Sept. 1, but it appears that the game will be moved down the schedule, delayed to another season or canceled altogether.

Best? Best? Shoganai, this is toeing the company line at its finest. If the Big 12 folds in 2-3 years, so what? If BYU doesn't get an immediate revenue share, so what? Nothing bad can happen with accepting a reasonable offer from the Big 12. The Big 12 knows that BYU won't play on Sunday so that's off the table in their initial offer. Anything else?

                    • Interesting point made by Joe Schad.

aTm has a bye week in Week 2, so he opines that Week 2 might be the week the SEC has its welcome press conference.

And the Big 12 might also have its Welcome press conference. Say, maybe in a place like Austin

That's a good point. While Pitt may be able to negotiate a quicker release, the Big East bylaws require a 27 month notice before a team can leave (and $5mm).

I never said I agreed that it would be best. But, I also don't think so highly of myself that I believe I could actually make the right decision based only on what info is publicly available.

                            • Assuming BYU is choosing to play a mid-major/FCS school in their place, this wouldn't have anything to do with the difficulty of their impending conference affiliation, would it?

Losing probably the premier game of the season in the first season of independence would not be a good sign.
We will still be able to watch in on BYUtv correct??
