Yes, all these "academics is the priority" statements. As noted above, no one thinks of uofutah when they talk about elite academics. It's an athletic conference and an athletic decision. The academic progress will take care of itself.

    Lies people tell themselves.

Most uofutah fans can't possibly be this dense, can they?
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Yeah, Arizona is the next logical domino to fall. But maybe it’s Ore or UW…. The B1G can get these teams at a discount RN so maybe that’s all they offered. The Big 12 adds CU, Az, Ore, and UW and we have a nice 16 team conference.

Yes, Cal and Stanford would be a better fit in the Ivy League. The Pac 12 is below them.

Im happy and I hope Utah is never invited and they end up back in a conference with SDSU and New Mexico.

And Coach Whitt becomes our new defensive coordinator.

                • but wait, there may be hope based on based on this article and throwaway quote from april!!!

                  Not so fast…

                  https://www.si.com/fannation/college/cfb-hq/ncaa-football/college-football-expansion-colorado-big-12-rumors 40

“Colorado chancellor Phil DiStefano went on the record, saying that his school is committed to the conference and has no plans to make any moves of any kind.”

I’m in the camp that believes the 10 schools would like to keep the PAC intact as long as the new TV deal makes financial sense. If the money isn’t there, it could quickly shift to a landscape of every man for himself.

That is my worry [slipping back to G5] as well. I’m not a fan of knee jerk reactions, but the B12 is looking better all the time. Too bad for the B12 that they pulled a knee jerk reaction themselves by immediately running out and inviting those 4 schools. They could stood pat and got the 4 corners schools.
They still don't get it. If the Big 12 hadn't expanded they likely would have suffered the fate that is awaiting the Pac 12. Everything they deride is what is stable about the Big 12 now. Teams like Utah pretending they are one of the "west coast elites" while all the time being heavily heavily dependent on a few blue bloods to prop up the conference is their instability that has been exposed.

Also a lot of confused people talking about football performance and conference titles in the past 10 years as if that is a primary driver in any of this. This is one of those times you reap what you sow. The smug self-satisfaction that permeated that conference combined with a disaster of a commissioner with his head in the sand led you to ruin. They just got plain out-maneuvered by the Big 12's new commish when they thought they could "stand pat" and pick up the best pieces that remained.

This is spot on. Hubris/arrogance is not just a personal shortcoming, it can be a killer for an organization. The chickens are coming home to roost.

Yes, trade up... Now the Pac 12 can add CSU, SMU, SDSU, BSU, and UNLV. They are going to get five teams for the price of one.

                            1. all ten pac schools want to remain in the pac, unless the big10 or sec comes calling.
                            2. No G5 moves the needle even a little bit.
                            3. The pac12 media deal is not done.

As I told Lebowski when he so rudely chastised me, the most likely scenario remains that nothing happens: no teams leave, none join. Once the CW opens up their coffers and starts spending those gossip girl residuals, all will be right with the world. Until then no one knows anything. and the universities have no reason to move until we know that the CW money machine is closed.
We are no longer where we started...

                              • You know, the Pac 12 should have killed the Big 12 when they had the chance... They should have taken BYU off the table so they Big 12 couldn't get them. This is their mistake.
