Maybe they go for Kansas for the basketball credibility.

The SEC is going to move on one of the Arizona schools and possibly Colorado.

I look forward to all of the Pac 5 University of Utah, billboards in Salt Lake.
So many bad takes today. No way does the SEC go after AZ schools or Colorado. FSU, Clemson, Miami make way more sense.

If Clemson, FL St, and Miami head to the SEC, and ND, Virginia, and UNC head to the B1G, and the rest try to get into the available spots in the Big-XII, there isn't a contract left.

Yeah, SEC doesn't stand for Sh*tty Education Colleges. No way the SEC would consider them.

        • Lots of people coalescing around this idea. But some of the responses indicate long Big12 memories concerning Colorado.

          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Tramel: Why USC-UCLA move to Big Ten could help Big 12 in conference realignment
            Berry Tramel
            Oklahoman
            [....]
In the same way that some Big 12 members scrambled to draw Pac-12 interest last summer, some Pac-12 members could be considering a Big 12 parachute.

The Pac-12 is cornered. Without USC and UCLA, the league has only Washington and Oregon as national-type brands, with no means for meaningful expansion. Oregon and Washington would be considered likely for future Big Ten expansion.

But the Big 12 still could swing for both. The Big 12 already has carved a Northwest passage, with the addition of Brigham Young.

The Big 12 could solicit Oregon, Washington and either Utah or Boise State or both.

If Oregon and Washington are holding out for the Big Ten, the Big 12 could make a run at Arizona State and Arizona, which coupled with some combination of Utah, Boise State or Colorado, would give the conference some intriguing options for television network suitors.

The Big 12 television contract ends in summer 2025, a year after the Pac-12's 2024 expiration.

A new-look Big 12 with four additional Pac-12 members would secure the conference as No. 3 in the college athletics’ pecking order. The Pac-12 would be moot. The Atlantic Coast Conference still would have Clemson and Florida State (and potentially, I suppose, Miami, if the Hurricanes get their act together under new football coach Mario Cristobal), but the ACC’s depth falls quickly.

            • The Big 12 is on the hunt.... sources!

USC & UCLA Officially Join Big Ten; What’s Next for Notre Dame, SEC & Big 12?

Big 12 to Pursue New Members

The Big 12, with newly named commissioner Brett Yormark, plans to go on the offensive and seek more new members, sources said.

The Big 12 could add Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado along with new members BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF to get to 16 teams after OU and Texas leave for the SEC, a source said. Other Big 12 sources prefer Washington and Oregon as part of the Big 12.

“The Big 12 has never been aggressive (in conference realignment), but they should contact those four Pac-12 schools and tell them ‘come on board because there’s nothing left’ in the Pac-12,” a source said.

Added another source: “We’re not sitting back this time. That killed us in the past. We’re looking to strengthen our conference.”

There is some hope among Pac-12 sources that the league will add schools from the Big 12 or maybe even some type of merger between the leagues.

Whatever happens, one source summed up the future of conference realignment best: “Buckle up, because this is going to be one helluva ride.”

Preface: This is has exactly 0% probability of ever occuring.

In spite of the preface I thought about this way too long last night and it would be awesome. I would tweak it it a bit.

Pac 6 - Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State
Big 6 - Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati
Southern - Baylor, Houston, TCU, Texas Tech, UCF, West Virginia
Western - Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Utah, Boise State, San Diego State

You have a mega conference that preserves regional rivalries (which is ultimately what I care about most in CFB) in divisions loosely based off of conferences blown up by expansion. Let's even do a four team conference tournament with the division winners with the semifinals on Thanksgiving Weekend. I should become active on Twitter and share all these super realistic and useful scenarios.

You get credit for consolidating all Texas schools into one division instead of spreading them across three divisions. The problem with such a 24-team mega conference is revenue dilution but it's a fun exercise.

                              Utah must be destroyed!

The Big 12 needs to go after Oregon, UW, AZ, and ASU. Cal would never join the Big 12 with BYU, Baylor and TCU so let them go to the MWC with Oregon St and WSU. Colorado left the Big 12 so they can go to hell with Utah. Stanford just needs to cancel their sports.

Greg Swaim....I remember hearing a lot from back in 2010-2016 when BYU to the Big 12 rumors were rampant. I'm sure his present insights are just as valuable.
