The prodigal corn son wants to come home...

Report: Nebraska wants to rejoin Big 12

There has been a lot of talk about the Big 12 wanting to explore conference expansion, especially considering the conference advertises in its title that it has 12 schools, though it now really only has 10.

Between 2010 and 2013, four schools left the conference, reducing it from 12 to eight teams. Those schools included Nebraska, Texas A&M, Missouri and Colorado. The conference added TCU and West Virginia to make up for the exodus.

Now a report says Nebraska, which moved to the Big Ten, wants to rejoin the Big 12.

Radio host Tim Montemayor reported Wednesday that the Cornhuskers want to rejoin the Big 12.

Monty is full of it. One of the few things Nebraska misses from the Big 8/12 is not playing Oklahoma. If OU left the Big 12, there is no allure for Nebraska to return. Nebraska's football brand has suffered because its been a long time since they have been relevant not because they joined the B1G.

Yeah, I can't see the Big 12 taking corn back. At least not until Nebraska is relevant again.

Undefeated and on a lot of people's list as a sleeper playoff pick.

Looking at the Big 12 in recent years, I'm ok with Nebraska not meeting that conference's definition of relevant.

Yeah, you have to hand it to those corn dogs... They had a good start this year on the road back to relevancy. If they were in the Big 12 this year they might even have a chance for one of the playoff spots. They would just have to beat Rapelor.

Multiple suitors? I think he has mistaken OU for AAU school.

They should just throw in the claim that they're also discussing things with a couple of PAC-12 OR ACC teams, just for fun.

I listened to Monte quite a bit when he was in the SLC market and my impression was that he kept his ear to the ground and had fairly accurate info.

It wouldn't surprise me if some or all of what he's pushing has happened. It seems like very few of the power players in the B12 are happy with expansion or not expanding. It wouldn't surprising me a bit if they are exploring all of the possibilities including what Monte is pushing.

I haven't commented much on expansion mostly due to shell shock from the last go 'round. I personally feel that BYU moves the needle but none of the other candidates do which makes it tough to expand. The other problem with the B12 is they have several member schools who also don't move the needle. I have a hunch Ok and Texas wouldn't mind getting rid of the chaff and starting fresh.

Big12: "Hey, none of these expansion candidates are worth crap. OK, let's add BYU and Cinci and keep most of our current members and start a new conference."

                          Yeah, makes perfect sense.

Most? If this is credible then I think they get rid of at least four: Iowa, Kansas, K State, and Baylor. I think BYU football is a bigger brand than any of the schools listed so why not get rid of them in favor of BYU? Where it breaks down for me is what other schools can you get? After Nebraska you're left with the same old expansion candidates that have been there from the start. An addition of Boise State might make some sense from a football standpoint.

My main point stands, it wouldn't surprise me if Texas and Ok are exploring every option including something similar to what Monte alleges.

Nebraska is not going anywhere. They may be boring, but they aren't stupid.

Have you not seen our perfectly balanced offense? We also have a qb that can score a Td or throw a pick 6 at any given moment. Super exciting!
