Promises can be made, but not always kept. Cincinnati and Memphis or whomever promise to up their sports budgets, expand football facilities, etc. BYU doesn't need to change much in terms of that. We only need to get deeper and use the extra money to continue to stay competitive. All other contenders, seeking admission to the conference and the status it provides, build their case on what they could do if they join the likes of the Oklahoma and Texas schools.
BYU makes its case not on what it will do, but what it has done."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

This guy over on Shaggy claims that Nebraska lost more like $70mm making the move to the Big Ten...Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostThat's not really accurate. Payouts within the Big 12 increased due to splitting revenue 10 ways instead of 12. Meanwhile Nebraska was phasing into a full share of Big Ten revenue. At the time Nebraska joined the Big Ten, they were guaranteed by the Big Ten at least the same revenue they projected to earn had they remained in the Big 12. Now that Nebraska is eligible for a full share of Big Ten revenue, their annual revenue in the Big Ten will easily surpass that of the Big 12.

I'll let you crunch the numbers yourself.in the past a few years back when the Big 10 and others would actually report distributions (anyone noticed how many conferences are not longer doing that) there was one year when the distribution for the BTN portion was reported to be $8.3 million and then the next year it was reported to be $7.8 million (or somewhere around there) and the reason for the DROP was the increase in share for Nebraska
the last semi-reported numbers were from the Purdue tax returns for last year and the total Big 10 distribution was around $36.5 million with EVERYTHING
here is a recent article on the buy in for Nebraska
http://www.omaha.com/huskers/nebrask...ebook-comments
if you run those numbers and take into account the money Nebraska left with the Big 12 and you compare those distributions to the Big 12 over those years Nebraska is still about $45 million IN THE HOLE over what they would have made in the Big 12 and that is a Big 12 with a contract that DOES NOT INCLUDE NU
and that is as compared to ISU or Texas Tech that is not compared to Texas with the LHN or Kansas with their deals so Nebraska with that factored in could well be $70 million or so in the hole to this day for the Big 10 move"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

The leap from 45 to 70 is speculation but that's pretty interesting.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostThis guy over on Shaggy claims that Nebraska lost more like $70mm making the move to the Big Ten...

It is interesting but there are a lot of assumptions in play. One way to look at it is if Nebraska had remained in the Big 12 would they be $45 or $70 million richer? When Nebraska fled the Big 12, they were not in a strong negotiating position and that probably is costing them some serious $$$ in the short term but it's probably nowhere near $45 million. In the long term, Nebraska is in a much better position financially, athletically, and academically. In Huskerland, there are few regrets with changing conferences and they are not begging to be back in the Big 12 like some posters on Shaggy claim.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostThis guy over on Shaggy claims that Nebraska lost more like $70mm making the move to the Big Ten...

BYU must be involved: Conference expansion is all about football and finances, regardless of the league digesting the data. Not only is BYU the most valuable football program among the obvious and available options, based on its January valuation of $99.46 million from the Wall Street Journal, the Cougars have the most fans of any college in Utah and filled 92.2 percent of their seats last season in a 63,470-seat stadium while playing an independent schedule with Boise State as the most attractive visiting team. Even if the school is granted a football-only membership (and it deserves better), the dollars attached to a BYU addition make too much sense for the Big 12 to overlook.Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.
