“I don’t know if there’s anybody out there that really adds value,” Bowlsby said. “Rutgers and Maryland came in (to the Big Ten). You look at Utah and Colorado (to the Pac-12). Most of the expansion, the ACC is another good example, most of the expansion has come in the lower half of the league when they come in. Anybody that’s out there for us would have to come in logically the lower half of our league in terms of the prominence of the institution and the amount of value that they bring.
I guess in the alternative, you can interpret his comment to mean that BYU is not even being considered for the Big 12. Please choose which interpretation you prefer.

Bowlsby agrees that BYU isn't a lower half program.

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure what just happened between JL and Funk wouldn't be considered sex. Even at BYU-Idaho.

            • What Bowlsby didn't mention is that "lower half of the league" description might fit the two additions to the Big 12. In three seasons, TCU is 14-13 and West Virginia is 11-16 in Big 12 play. So it would seem TCU is slightly above the "lower half of the league" while West Virginia is clearly in the lower half. Bowlsby also didn't mention that three of the teams that left the Big 12 are not "lower half of the league" teams. Texas A&M (14-11) and Missouri (16-10) in three seasons in the SEC are in the upper half. So is Nebraska at 22-11 in four seasons in the B1G. Bowlsby was accurate about Colorado (4-33) and Utah (14-22) in four seasons of PAC-12 play.

What the Big12 and Bowlsby don't seem to grasp is the reason the PAC-12 and B1G expanded was to qualify for a conference championship game. They didn't like the fact that the Big 12 and SEC were getting much of the publicity late in the season because of their championship games and that the winners would have another quality win going into the final BCS rankings. Instead, Bowlsby keeps making the argument that the Big12 will play a CCG with 10 teams. That's got to upset the PAC-12 who got saddled with Colorado and Utah. Perhaps Bowlsby doesn't want to admit just how much Texas has screwed the Big 12 by alienating Nebraska and then letting their rival Texas A&M go to the SEC.

The Big12 could stabilize itself by adding BYU and either Boise St. or another eastern team to pair with West Virginia. IMO, it might take Oklahoma to threaten to go to the SEC before Texas will wake up to reality.

Indeed. Colorado and Utah are very much bottom feeders.

Maybe now that Nebraska lost its AAU status the Big 10 will let them go and they can return home to the Big 12 with BYU. It must be embarrassing for the Huskers to be the only University in the B1G that isn't in the AAU. The Big 12 will overlook all that. Besides it will be fun to see BYU and Nebraska play more often.

Enough of the AAU smack. But I must admit it stings a little since my summer jobs through HS and college were working in research labs on Nebraska's agriculture campus (that's right-Nebraska has a separate campus for Agriculture research) that the AAU "Throw Nebraska Out on Its Ass" committee decided not count in their rankings formula since Agriculture research grants in their mind were not competitive grants. Besides, my degrees (and yours) are from BYU who is also not part of the AAU.

There was a time when I thought Notre Dame would finally join the Big Ten to put the B1G at 12 teams. I had known for a while that Colorado would take the first train to the west coast as the Buffs had been "California Dreamin" for quite some time. That would have left an opening for BYU to join the Big 12 North. All would be well.

But once A&M and Mizzou left the Big 12, there's only KU and OU of interest to Husker fans. Nebraska has a good deal going in the B1G with annual games against Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa despite its AAU embarrassment. But it still takes some getting used to as I've had to give up one of my hobbies of disparaging Big Ten football. I do miss Nebraska playing Oklahoma on Thanksgiving but that ship sailed back in the glorious 1990s. I hope BYU and Nebraska schedule a home-and-home series but that can't happen until 2020.

Duly noted. I was wondering how long of a dispensation I would receive with regards to Nebraska football. Two weeks seems fair but probably a week longer than most would like. However, the BYU-Nebraska game was exciting and you were losing faith at the start of the 4th quarter. Now it's "old news" back to

Even the Nebraska Chancellor, Harvey Perlman, thought its membership in the AAU was the key reason for a B1G invite...

"All the Big Ten schools are AAU members," Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman said. "I doubt that our application would've been accepted had we not been a member of the organization."

It could happen sooner than 2020. Nebraska just needs to come back to where they belong and bring their new rival buddy, BYU. The Big 12 is almost perfect now. Colorado is gone and is now the Pac 12's problem child. The Aggies are no longer stinking up the conference with cadets grabbing themselves and doing other dumbass aTm traditions. Texas is eating a big piece of humble pie. And who cares about Mizzou? Just add BYU and it can't get any better. Well, I guess it could be better if WV wasn't in the conference but at least you will get your old hobby back!
