  • Great article, down to the typo (or was it?) announcing "Byu is not the best non-power conference team." But I'll keep the sports minority report blogspot in my list of frequently cited blogs for this gem:

Private Universities tend to do less research. Religious privates tend to do even less. BYU has actively chosen to be on the low end of even that scale.
It is like BYU has put up the finger to doing research. They will never get into the PAC-12 or Big Ten.

Go back and re-read the title to the article.

          Another gem!

BYU saw their little brother Utah picked for the Pac-12 over the Cougars. Utah is about 60% of what BYU is

Total Fucking Bullshit. I have no vested interest in BYU, but this is an unsupportable smear campaign.

That is why I posed the question ("or was it"). Turns out it was a triple negative!

                      • Looks like research is overvalued.
                        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

This article really mostly talks about the BYU-ESPN TV deal amidst ESPN financial issues that led to the recent layoff announcement.

Really, my main reason for posting it here is that it makes me wonder if ESPN is over-leveraged on existing TV deals and if so, how that would affect future TV deal negotiations for Big 12 expansion, or whether TV money (or lack thereof) would actually drive the Big 12 to postpone expansion until such time as the money is right? The TV sports market is an interesting one, and there seems to be a poor understanding of it generally.
