It will, won't it. TCU choked in the bowl last year as they didn't know how to handle being the top dog. I excited for the new conference.

Boise? They're not a rival. You can't just manufacture these things. The Utah and BYU rivalry is deep. It's religious. It's proud. It's hate. It's throat slashing gestures. It's kicking a downed opponent. It's swinging the back of your fist and flopping. You're born into it. And if you're not, if you go to one of these two schools you're swept into it. Why did Max Hall's post game rant make national news? Can you picture anyone saying anything like that about the Broncos? Besides they were our compadre. They were trying to take down the system just like we were. They were who we all rooted for in that Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma. They will now be our in conference foe but they won't be a rival.

Like you I no longer live in the west. I have tried to explain the rivalry to people and none of them get. It's not because it doesn't seem like a could be a good rivalry but it just doesn't compare to others out there like Texas v OU or Notre Dame v Michigan or Michigan v. Ohio State. The more I try to explain it the more I come to the realization that its just not that big of a rivalry. I'm sorry Surfah but it's true.

Boise has needed a good rivalry for a long time. The three team dynamic of BYU, Boise and TCU will be very interesting to watch.

It is a big rivalry to those that participate in it. Which is what really matters, is it not?

If Utah gets 5 home conference games in 2011 (the PAC is expected to continue 9 conference games) then they can play at byu and still have 6 home games.

As someone on the outside looking in it just seems to me that it's something that has to be manufactured unlike other rivalries. Hell, people are hesitant to even call it the Holy War. You've got Banks paying to name the rivalry.

I am not likening it to the Civil War, the Backyard Brawl or any of these other classic rivalries. But it's still a top 10-15 rivalry. Just because someone here in VA doesn't understand it doesn't diminish its value. I don't understand the hate between Pitt and W VA, but that doesn't diminish the hate between those two schools.

The rivalry is important to those who participate in it. We no longer have a rivalry. One of the great things about college football is the pageantry. And being a fan of a school who doesn't do much of this or have many traditions, a rivalry is all we have. Particularly when we can't compete for a MNC.

If we play 9 COnference games, we will have room for only 3 OOC games. We would have to drop/move ISU, BSU, or Pitt. Do you see that happening?

My thoughts as well. The rivalry has been part of me for as long as I can remember. I hope it doesn't go away.

If it were a true rivalry would you have a bank trying to name it? No, it would already have a name and the bank would simply be looking to be the sponsor.

Besides, Utah has made it's choice and there are consequences for adopting a new set of principles. It's time for BYU to move on. I hope Utah has the strength of their convictions to do so also.

I'd be saying the exact same thing if BYU were headed to the Big 12.

It has a name... The Holy War. What are you talking about?

BTW:The Red River Shootout changed its name to the Red River Rivalry when SBC became the sponsor of the game. It is now called the AT&T Red River Rivalry. I don't think your point is very strong TB.

Only us fans call it the Holy War. To the sponsors it's the Deseret Duel or some such. It's just not the same thing as the Red River Rivalry.

At the end of the day, Utah has made a choice and as a consequence the demands of scheduling might put a stop to the game. It's time for the two teams to move on.
