They do make concessions for their athletes. Like I said, if BYU wants you and you meet the standards of what the NCAA has put in place, they will get you into school and they won't have any problems doing so.
I thought the NCAA banned BYU correspondence courses.
Because there was no Golden Gun challenge, Tanner Mangum of Eagle (Eagle, Idaho) kept his title for another day. Mangum won the contest on Monday and repeated on Tuesday, earning two gold jerseys. He wore one on Wednesday and let the other hang from his waistband as a “reminder” to the rest of the guys, he said.
At one point during the 7-on-7 session, play started to drag. The defense had seen the same route combinations over and over and was starting to gain an edge. So Tanner Mangum decided to try a different approach.
When it was his turn under center, Mangum pushed the pace and went up-tempo. The BYU recruit from Eagle (Eagle, Idaho) got the receivers in and out of the huddle quickly and hit all four of his passes. His final throw was a deep ball down the sideline for a TD.
“The first time through I was a little nervous,” admitted Mangum. “The second time I decided to have a little fun and set a faster tempo. That made it so I didn’t really have time to think. It got rid of my nerves and I could make good decisions.”
Dilfer to Mangum: "tanner, that might've been perfect...
That might've been the first perfect session we've seen"

Tanner Mangum delivered the day's best pass --
40 yards in the air, perfectly in stride. The nation's top riser over the past month?

Just talked to Mangum, and he says he's #2 in the rankings currently, after today's performance, he could very well be bumped up to first
208!!!
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

With just Friday’s morning workout remaining, Mangum may have put a stranglehold on the camp MVP award. A BYU recruit from Eagle (Eagle, Idaho) Mangum was perfect in 7-on-7, making good reads and even better throws.
Jake better have a huge year this year and make the jump to the NFL early.
At least if you believe everything we're hearing from the elite 11 camp. They give me the impression that Tanner would beat out Jake and start next year as a true freshman.
Talk about hype and building expectations...
I should say - I'm sure he's great. And I'm glad that he's better than the rest of the QB's there. But some of this is getting unreal.

Nobody is going that far. And besides, Magnum won't be enrolled at BYU for 3 years if he's going on a mission, which I thought was the case. Maybe he'll change his mind on that after getting all this hype.

Between Football Media Day and having a BYU recruit at the Elite 11 camp, July will have just enough hype to get me through to fall camp updates.
Near as I can tell, Heaps will be the guy through 2013, then Hill takes over for the next two years (or three if Heaps leaves early, but who knows how likely that is), then Mangum will have 3 years to lead the team. So, we're pretty well set at QB through 2018.
If Mangum doesn't go on a mission, he would still get 3 years post-Jake, assuming he redshirts in 2012, but would be competing against Hill in 2014 and 2015 before having the job to himself in 2016. I'm hoping Tanner goes on a mission. Hill doesn't seem to be as good of a thrower as either Heaps or Mangum, but it'd be fun to have a mobile QB for a couple years between the prodigies, and Hill is supposed to be pretty good with his feet.

It is pretty dang exciting to have this much talent in the pipeline to be excited about.
And all kidding aside - while I'm glad Jake was able to start as a true freshman due to there not being a better option (or so it would seem), I am totally on board with the concept of almost never starting someone at QB who hasn't been in the system at least two years. At least it seems like the coaches said something along the lines of their goal would be to create a pipeline of players at QB that start as juniors more often than they do as freshmen (even with a RS).

Agreed, and it seems to be coming to fruition. Both Hill and Mangum would have two years in the system before taking over the job. It should be a fun stretch to watch.
