If he is looking at a non football career, it'd be hard to pass up a Stanford or Notre Dame education.

It's not a bad position for a kid to be in honestly. I'd love for him to choose the Y.
Agree with the exception of track records in comparing Nebraska and Utah. While Utah has done well recently in regards to the DL, the Utes can challenge the Cornhuskers when they have four Outland/Lombardi award winners on the DL like Nebraska can claim. Here's a quick breakdown using the NFL draft at DL positions:

    2000 - present
Nebraska: 10 selections with 4 in rounds 1-2
Utah: 8 selections with 2 in rounds 1-2

    1990-99
Nebraska: 11 selections with 5 in rounds 1-2
Utah: 2 selections with 1 in rounds 1-2

    1980-89
Nebraska: 15 selections with 4 in rounds 1-2
Utah: 2 selections with none in rounds 1-2

With the brief nature of NFL careers, I would advise anyone not named Ndamukong Suh (or with the ability to be selected in the top two rounds of the NFL draft) to take the Stanford education over another school.

2011: Neither school had a DL drafted in the NFL draft (though Utah had Seaver Silaga declare and leave school early).

2010: Nebraska had Ndamukong Suh in round 1 and Utah had Koa Misi in round 2 (though Misi was drafted as an OLB, he played DE at Utah). Nobody can argue the phenomenal talent that Suh is, as he is one of probably the best DL prospects in NFL history.

2009: Utah had Paul Kruger in round 2, again a guy who played DE at Utah but got drafted as an OLB, Nebraska had nobody.

2008: Neither team had a DL drafted

2007: Nebraska had Adam Carriker go in round 1, Utah had Paul Soliai in round 4.

2006: Nebraska had Le Kevin Smith in round 6 and Titus Adams in round 7. Utah had nobody.

2005: Utah had Sione Pouha in round 3 and Jonathan Fanene in round 7. Nebraska had nobody.

So since 2005, Utah has had 5 guys do in the draft, with two in the second round, one in the third, one in the 4th and one in the 7th. Nebraska has had two in the first round, one in round 6 and one in round 7 for a total of 4 players. In talking about quality, Suh definitely tips the scales in Nebraskas favor, but it isn't like recently Utah hasn't put good DL players in the NFL. I love to bash on Utah whenever I can, but putting a DL in the NFL two times in every three years, with four of those guys going in the first four rounds is not a bad place to be.

And honestly, who cares if Nebraska had a bunch of guys drafted in the 80's? Is it the jersey that teaches the technique and builds strength?

Well, with Nebraska and the Blackshirts, it may actually be true.

Why stop at 2005? In 2004 Nebraska had Utah's own Ryon Bingham and Trevor Johnson both in round 7. Utah had nobody.

I'm not knocking Utah's DL production. Just questioning whether it's better than Nebraska's who has a pre-season All-American DT in Jared Crick this season.

This can only mean three things:

                  1. He could meet BYU's academic standards.

                  2. He's a BYU kid (i.e., will live the Honor Code).

                  3. We want him.
                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I think this is a pretty solid pick up for this staff. I don't think we need to kid ourselves into believing this kid is going to be a superstar, but this is a non-LDS AA kid from SoCal who had offers to Boise State, Utah and SDSU. My read on him as a player is that he was in the shadow of some kid who went to Oregon and probably is under the radar a bit at this point in time. With a very good senior campaign he might have gotten a lot more attention and moved out of BYU's realm....or the fact that Boise State was recruiting him for defense might indicate he really isn't all that as a RB. On the other hand BYU can move him to defense as well. Either he or Adam Timo/Hine will likely move to the defensive side of the ball. While Adam might be BYU's version of Chris Huber, Timo was recruited more and more significantly regarded and Timo committed to BYU as a sophmore. So if I had to pick one who moves my guess is it is Williams.

I was a little bit indifferent about Williams commit until I saw his highlight video. I don't know how good the Sunkist league is but a few things that stood out:

                        1. He has excellent vision and does a nice job of picking a hole and exploding through it.

                        2. Almost all of his runs are between the tackles which will bode well for him in college. Most kids in high school that run 4.5s are fast enough to take the ball on a sweep and beat everyone to the edge on every play. This kid runs between the tackles on almost every carry and averaged over 8 yards per carry this year.

                        3. He finishes runs with authority. Watch how hard he runs and how hard he finishes the play he is trying to run you over. At 6'2 185 I am guessing he can put another 20 pounds on his frame without losing any speed.

Solid pickup for BYU and it is always good to steal one from the Utes.

By the way HFN I just watched highlights of Devon Blackmon who Jamaal Wiliams played with at Summit HS. Wow that kid is sick his highlight video is one of the best I have seen.

This kid looks like he will thrive in the West Coast O that Doman will be installing. Appears that he could be a legitimate threat to catch the ball out of the backfield and make plays in space.

BYU commit Tanner Mangum outplaying Jake Rodrigues. Showing off a big arm and using touch when needed.
Sounds like Mangum is showing well at the Elite 11.

Would Mangum or Hill be considered the better QB prospect coming into the program?
