Since you are not a BYU fan, I can understand why you don't know the difference between a BYU commit that has their scholarship offer pulled and a BYU commit that doesn't have the scholarship pulled.

Bronco being very smart tells people he pulls the scholarship in those circumstances leading people to believe he means in all circumstances. It is easier to do that, than say in "most" all circumstances and then explain which ones he doesn't.

I know he isn't the only one that does that. He is however still recruiting a kid that has given his commitment to another school.

I don't think Bronco would appreciate that sort of public statement. If you're 100% committed, why are you still taking trips and still talking to BYU's coaches?
He probably wouldn't appreciate it. But it doesn't mean he'd pull his schollie this early in the process. I doubt he would, absent other factors.

I agree, there's some hypocrisy there. But its hard to know who is moving this thing. It could be Biegel that's having the second thoughts. I wouldn't be real stoked if Bronco and his staff were pursuing this kid real strong after he committed, but if the kid is the one who's kept the dialogue open, I'm more okay with it.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I know we have already gone this round before. Bronco is a hypocrite! Utes love to jump on Bronco for this. They try to paint Bronco as dishonorable. I still don't see it that way and never will. The only commitment that should and does matter to Bronco (and any other coach IMO) is the one a kid makes to him. That's the binding commitment. If a player wants to trip elsewhere after giving Bronco his commitment, I have no problem with Bronco pulling his schollie. Obviously the kid is not committed to BYU or at least not as committed as Bronco believed.

Bronco's job is to get the best player for BYU. That includes kids who have made commitments elsewhere. Bronco doesn't know what the commitment was between that kid and another coach. It could be soft. The kid could still be tripping. He could have accepted an early offer but was a late bloomer. Who knows? If Bronco doesn't at least approach these kids or inquires about their commitments then he isn't doing his job.

You just don't get it. Kona Schwenke (4-star recruit) was committed to us and still talking / tripping to Notre Dame. This time, the 4-star recruit is committed to somebody else and is still flirting with US. Do you get the difference?

I think Bronco frequently pulls scholarships when he comes to the realization that it if he honors the scholarship offer, it is likely to go unused. Trully, Bronco is a great humanitarian seeking to make sure more and more of God's children can take advantage of the glorious higher education at the BYU!

I also think he pounding his chest about pulling scholarships is not for the fanbase, I think it is because at his core Bronco hates the recruiting game.

So help me understand then, A verbal is a binding commitment. That is how Bronco sees it when it is given to him. Why is that commitment different if it is to another school?

I do get the difference. That is why I thought it would be a good discussion.

Why the need to attempt to understand a concept that is quite obviously beyond your ability to grasp?

And who cares? Lets just grant that anonymous message board posters are both more logically consistent and less ethically challenged than Bronco.

                        • Finally, some REAL exciting recruiting news!

Don’t underestimate the importance of a quality deep-snapper.

BYU sure won’t, not after the 2003 season. That year, the team saw an uncommon amount of difficulties in getting the ball snapped during punts and kicks, which played a large hand in some early season losses.

BYU secured a quality deep-snapper with the commitment of Pine View’s Kolton Donovan, Wednesday. After his performance on junior day, coaches quickly came forward with an offer.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I'm not. I think this is a legit topic to discuss. Plus the sports talk and football talk is slow right now. I wasn't the one that posted the article about a star high school athlete that is committed to a school yet BYU is still actively recruiting him. I am just commenting on it. If I were the stringpuller, I would have been the one posting the article and flaming away at it.

It isn't that difficult to understand. When a kid committs to play at BYU, Bronco explains to him that he expects the recruit to cease the recruiting process. If the recruit continues to allow himself to be recruited then Mendenhall concludes that the committment is null and void and might exercise his powers to pull the offer.

Mendenhall has no clue what is included in the commitment Biegal made to Wisconsin as he wasn't there when it was made. It is entirely possible that the Wisconsin HC says to a committed recruit: "go ahead and ride out the recruiting game all you want just to ensure coming to Wisconsin is what you want." Regardless in any case it is Biegal's role to end the recruiting process with Mendenhall. A recruit is the one that controls whether or not he takes a trip to a different school or whether or not he maintains communication with a school.

Now what would be inconsistent of Mendenhall is if a kid committs to BYU, closes the door to be recruited elsewhere and then Mendenhall pulls the offer.

I think Bronco does what most coaches do when it comes to recruiting and trying to get the best guys on board. I don't care if he threatens them, kisses their asses, jerks one guys offer to make a point to 5 other guys.

I have gotten over the bravado to the press and the General Authority worship some fans have for him because of his Godlike behavior.

There must be some deeper flaw deep in the recesses of my mind that makes me want to mock these fans over and over. Why, that is the question I struggle with. Why do I care if these nimrods think he and BYU are on some higher moral level than anyone else. WHY????
