Yes they have. The trouble with education is that everybody demands it but they are not willing to pay for it."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."
"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."
"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."

Back on topic, looks like BYU is after another kid from Helix High in San Diego. Sounds like both utah and San Diego State have offered as well:
* In football, the Cougars are heavily pursuing Sam Meredith, a 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end and tight end from Helix High in La Mesa, Calif. (near San Diego). Meredith is expected to visit BYU on Jan. 7.
Meredith's Helix Highlanders team defeated Mt. Carmel 45-7 in the state playoffs last weekend and meets Oceanside on Thursday. Helix is 11-0 and Meredith is widely considered to be one of the top players in the area.
Meredith is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 58 tight end in the country, and has seven sacks from his defensive end position. The recruiting web site gives him three stars.
He recently said that BYU has a slight edge over Utah and San Diego State on his list of favorite schools. UCLA was recruiting him, but has dropped off the last month, he said*Banned*

I have not heard much on Apo sounds like he will be fine for next year though and is not going anywhere.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostHelix HS? Nobody good comes out of Helix.
What's the word on Apo? Is he solid for next season? Or is it still undecided?
Seems BYU, Utah and SC have all had some luck with Helix High grads.*Banned*

Joe Sampson and Ryker Mathews signed with BYU yesterday. Both will be on campus for spring practice. They both look to be like solid contributors at some point, but can someone give the skinny on how soon either one will be an impact player? Is Sampson expected to come in and contribute immediately as a JuCo guy with BYU losing most of its secondary?

Matthews I think is as good or better than Braden Hansen was as a freshman so we may see him play early as well. I think he is the successor to Matt Reynolds at Left Tackle.*Banned*

I think the successor might end up being Brock Stringham. I heard he just got back from his mission over the past couple of weeks. This dude I know told me that had he not left on a mission Brock would have started that year at RT opposite Matt his redshirt freshman year. He has raved about how good Brock is, great feet, long arms and has great technique. BYU is loaded with O line depth for the future.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostSampson is expected to come in and start from Day 1.

With Ryker going on a mission you are probably right. That is great news as the O-Line is the one position on the offense that had me slightly concerned after next year.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostI think the successor might end up being Brock Stringham. Is he, the replacement to Matt Reynolds, Ryker or Hansen? If Matt retuns to anchor BYU's return to glory OL next year, then that could be possible if Ryker does not serve a mission. My crystal ball says that both of those are highly unlikely to happen. I expect Matt to bolt for the big bucks, I do recall that his favorite book was authored by Glenn Beck so clearly he wants to take advantage of the fact that millionaires no longer have to pay taxes in this country (Swing low sweeeeet chariot....for my "spiritually wounded" Progressive friends) , and declare himself elgible for the NFL draft. I also expect Ryker to serve a mission. It is only Utah County boys from Spanish Fork that are such shitbags that they opt out of their religious subculture's mandated coming of age events! So I am assuming you mean Hansen is Matt's heir apparant. I doubt the timeline works well for Ryker to be Hansen's heir apparant.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostSampson is expected to come in and start from Day 1.

The kid is 6'7. From my understanding, Bronson Kaufusi will play OT as well. And when I say from my understanding, this comes directly from Bronson's old man. Brock and 6'7 and Bronson and 6'8 with lean body types is pretty freaking scary if you ask me. They are both extremely athletic and if they can get the strength they need in order to run block someone, look out.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostWith Ryker going on a mission you are probably right. I doubt Brock starts next year. However, if Matt Reynolds does not seek to take advantage of the no tax paying opportunities afforded millionaires and returns to the BYU for Alma Mater's Sons and Daughters, I could forsee Elder Stringham taking over as a RS sophmore in 2012.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostI think the successor might end up being Brock Stringham. But if Matt bolts for the NFL, I expect it to be Hansen and Braden Brown as bookend tackles for the next two years.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!
