I'd definitely have mixed feelings about Whit leaving to USC. First, Utah would have to strike it rich again with a hire out of the MAC/WAC/Conf. USA, etc. I don't want to say Utah was lucky that they hired Meyer, but hiring a head coach from outside the program is definitely hit or miss and I just don't know of any prospect out of 1aa or the MAC that would be intriguing for Utah. And unlike the Meyer departure with Whit sitting in the wings, who had long been thought to be a good HC prospect, I don't know of an assistant at Utah who can be promoted. Although it's far from being a certainty, Utah may not have as much luck with their next hire as they were with the last two.
So, I'd hate to see one of the big three in the MWC take a big step back due to the quest to become an AQ conference. On the other hand, it would be nice to see BYU string together consecutive wins against Utah.
