Sure he took the Cavs to their one and only finals appearance (where they got swept) but to win he needed to be paired up with Wade who already led a Miami team to a title. He wants to win. He realizes what it takes to win now. LA could be something if they get Kobe on the cheap and then add Bron and another big FA. Then you get all the role players to come who want a title just like they flocked to Miami. Kobe is in his twilight and he just wants rings to push him past Magic and more importantly MJ. He's ready to turn the franchise over to someone else, someone who deserves it and will do the Lakers right. This is why he and Dwight never worked. But Kobe would have no problem handing the reins to someone like Bron.
    See, but Kobe's never come on the cheap. Kobe's always been the guy who demanded the absolute max he could get.

    LA has huge cap problems right now, and that can go away with some dumping of contracts over a few years, but a million guys have done it in LA. I'd rather make my own legacy elsewhere. I think he's more likely to go home to Cleveland and make amends there than go to LA.

      Huh? The only person on the roster for 2014-15 is Nash. They have zero cap problems.

      • This is crazy:

        @ESPNSteinLine 23m
        Your NBA luxury-tax champions from the 2012-13 season? Lakers informed tonight that they were officially charged $29,259,739 in '12-13 tax
        ‏@ESPNSteinLine 19m
        Rest of NBA's 2012-13 tax bills: 2. MIA ($13,346,242), 3. BKN ($12,883,647), 4. NYK ($9,962,406), 5. CHI ($3,932,336), 6. BOS ($1,181,640)
        @ESPNSteinLine 4m
        Wanna know how new NBA world works? With essentially same payroll as Lakers last season, Nets will owe$70+ mil in tax after 2013-14 season
        And they already have $90 M committed for 2014-15.

          It was a joke. Right now there are really three viable options for Bron: Cleveland, Miami and LA. And if I were a betting man that would probably be how I'd rank them.

          • So the Lakers pick up Farmar for a year and are trying to get LO for a year. I've seen this team before.

            Stephen A. was saying Bron and Melo have talked about playing together. And he has said it's 50-50 Melo ends up in LA. I don't know how that all would work but I'd be giddy to see BGR in a Kobe uni, BITF streaking at conference and FN Phat rooting for the Lakers.

              Melo and Bron would be a horrible combination.

                    Me buying a Kobe uni was solely based on Kanter's ppg. It was in reference to the prediction he would average 12 ppg.

                        How do you feel about Wynton Marsalis?
                        So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

                        • Is OKC going to use Reggie Jackson and Jeremy Lamb as their bench scoring options this year? I think they can get away with playing Westbrook and Jackson together at times. But Lamb hasn't shown anything at this level yet. And once Adams and Roberson get their rookie deals, OKC will have most of their roster filled out and will be right up against the luxury tax line, so even using part of the MLE would likely push them over. It wouldn't be a big deal to a small tax, but they'll certainly want their clock as a multiple tax payer to start as late as possible since they have Durant/Westbrook/Ibaka making $50 just between those 3 in two years.

                          Kevin Martin was their 3rd leading scorer last year and it looks like they'll lose him for nothing (though current rumors say they'll do a sign and trade to get the trade exception). He shot 42% from 3 and 89% from the line. They will really need Jackson/Lamb and/or Ibaka to step up their offensive games in a big way to cover for that loss.

                                Now nobody wants to see that. But, if you get naked and run through General Conference? I'd pay for that kind of entertainment.
