You might be more shocked if you saw the number of shots he took to have games like that.Originally posted by old_gregg View Posta player has scored 60+ points 64 times. 32 of those were wilt.
Over his first four years in the league (the most prolific years of his career in terms of stats), Wilt averaged 35 FG attempts per game and 15 FT attempts per game. During the season when he averaged 50 ppg (no question many of those 60 point games came in that season) he put up 39 shots a game and 17 FTs per game.
His usage must have been off the charts.
Basketball reference didn't start tracking game logs until Wilt's 5th season. He didn't have any 60 point games in his 5th season, but had two in his 6th year. In those two games, Wilt made 26 FGs in one game and 27 FGs in another - basketball reference doesn't show the number of attempts, but Wilt was never a terribly efficient shooter, especially for a big man, so it's likely in those two games he may have shot it 40 to 50 times.Last edited by smokymountainrain; 03-04-2014, 11:40 AM.I'm like LeBron James.

When Wilt was 29, he shot a then career high 54% 2pt FGs. He's was a 7'2" 5, playing against mostly 6'8"/6'9" centers in the league at the time. He took 25 shots a game and scored 33 ppg.
At age 29, LeBron is shooting 64% 2pt FGs as a 6'8" wing. He takes 17 shots per game and scores 28 ppg.
Chamberlain had one season during career in which he shot 60%+ FGs and averaged at least 20 ppg.I'm like LeBron James.

Is this a trick question?Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostHow many Bill Russells were there in the league?"I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

6'9" Bill Russell held Chamberlain to 23 ppg in their 51 games against each other, and 23 ppg in their 36 playoff games. Russell retired in 68-69. Through that season, Chamberlain was averaging 34 ppg in his career. So Wilt averaged 35.2 ppg against everyone except Russell's teams during his first 10 seasons, but 12 fewer ppg against 6'9" Russell.Originally posted by wapiti View Post6'8" Centers like Bill Russell?

It would be interesting to know how many shots, on average, it took Wilt in those games against Russell to get his 23 ppg.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View Post6'9" Bill Russell held Chamberlain to 23 ppg in their 51 games against each other, and 23 ppg in their 36 playoff games. After LBJ dropped 61 on Charlotte, I heard several people downplaying the event because he'd done it against Charlotte. Besides being a decent team in general, they are one of the best defensive teams in the league, both in points allowed and opponents FG%.
Tonight they beat Indiana 109-87 and held Paul George to 0-9 FGs and 2 points.I'm like LeBron James.

Downplaying that game is stupid. Yes bron bron is an asshole, but he is amazing player and that was an amazing game.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostAfter LBJ dropped 61 on Charlotte, I heard several people downplaying the event because he'd done it against Charlotte. Many of the highlights I saw had Lebron making layups with Al Jefferson "protecting". I'm surprised to read that Charlotte is a good defensive team with Al in the middle.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostAfter LBJ dropped 61 on Charlotte, I heard several people downplaying the event because he'd done it against Charlotte. The Bulls are a great defensive team with Boozer and Dunleavy getting big minutes. Coaching makes a big difference.
