  • Paul George isn't fooling around.

It will be interesting to see if he can keep up the better scoring without having to sacrifice much of his defense.

    • Suns and Sixers both 3-1.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

          • Charlotte is 3-1 playing w/o Al Jefferson this year, w/the only loss coming on the road in NO on the 2nd night of a back to back.

            Nice 3 year, $40 M contract, MJ.

As far as I'm concerned, the Jazz are 4-0 on the year. Doing everything the way they need to.

                • Andre Miller still is a viable NBA player. He certainly is suited as a backup PG right now, but it impressive that he is still playing the PG position at 37 and still effective. I'm not entirely sure he doesn't have another 1-2 years left in him after this year.

The NBA will not be the same for me when the NBA's finest angry old man retires. When Miller retires, there better be an assistant coach spot made immediately available for him at the University of Utah.

                  • Zach Lowe on Miller last year.

G Dr. Andre Miller, PhD, Point Guard University

Miller is the reason every NBA fan needs to invest in DVR — and not even because of the lob passes, long the best in the business, and propping up JaVale McGee's career for the last year. It is astonishing what Professor Miller can see in real time, with nine other guys darting around a crowded court.

He is always two steps ahead of opponents and teammates, in ways that are easy to miss on first watch. But when you slow down the tape, you can see Miller doing this kind of calculation: "If I pause mid-dribble, hesitate, and then take one extra dribble into the paint, Defender A will shift to Spot X, which allows Teammate B to get open in Spot Y, which in turn will draw Defender B, which in turn will free Teammate C who likely has no idea what is about to happen." It is like a perfect geometric proof during an NBA game.

Toss in one of the best little guy, ass-first post games, and I'm sold. Miller can't really defend anymore, and Denver has to hide him on the weakest offensive player at all times, but this list is about pure entertainment.

Miller is the ultimate Rick Majerus player. His game and the way he thinks about it are all traced back to Rick Majerus. Oh and here is a collection of 70 of Miller's 79 lob passes last year.

I will admit I enjoy watching Andre post up. Also why are you linking an article almost a year old?

Which makes McGee and Dre a good fit on a team since there isn't a better player at throwing alley oops than Andre Miller.

I didn't see the article originally. It was linked in a more recent article that I was reading on Dre.

                            • Who is the 2nd best player in the NBA right now? Coming in to the year, I think Kevin Durant would've been the vote 100 times out of 100. But is it really that clear?

Paul George is averaging 26 ppg, making 44% of his 7 3pt attempts, grabbing 8 rpg, and though I've only watched one Indiana game and can't verify for how he's playing on defense this year we can accurately say he proved to be an elite wing defender last year and put forth far more effort on that end than Durant did. I doubt George shoots 44% from 3 all year, but if he can score 25+, shoot well, be an elite rebounder for a SF, and continue to play stellar defense, we might fairly start talking about him as a top 5 player and as good of a fit as the 2nd best to LeBron as anyone else. That would be crazy to see a guy make that kind of leap from where he was as a rookie.

And though I've long thought his defense was drastically overrated, Chris Paul is just downright absurd in the incredibly small sample size we have so far. The ESPN piece about Paul being able to look for his shot more while still being a facilitator was a great read. He is so good with the ball and makes the right decision almost all of the time. And I still can't believe how strong he is when he gets in the lane and doesn't get thrown off his path or commit silly turnovers. But with how valuable the PG would be to how that team is built, if Paul puts up a year of 22/12/3 with high shooting numbers and limited turnovers, how high would he be on player rank?

And about that LeBron guy...I posted earlier wondering what might happen with James this season, coming off a historic shooting year, 2nd title, 3rd finals appearance...surely there was going to be a drop off. But he also sat out for a month after the season, getting rest that he said he hadn't had in years. So far his shooting is at 58/50/80.
