Third round to the Giants with the 31st pick in that round."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Keep in mind they still have accounts here and can post just as easy as the rest of us about the draft. Just like everybody else, they are simply choosing not to.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostNot a single post on the first round?
I miss cj/HL/Sizzle.
My only comment for now on the draft is that I can't believe how it seems every year NFL guys get pulled in by a guy who is big, athletic and can throw a football hard, and draft him early despite the fact that he's a shitty football player. Congrats, Miami Dolphins.I'm like LeBron James.

I don't get on the board much in the evening, but here are some first round thoughts:Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostNot a single post on the first round?

Wow.
What a flurry of activity. 9 total trades in the first round. The biggest surprise trade seems to be Dallas moving up to 6 to get Claiborne. Right behind that, WVU's Bruce Irvin going 15 seems to have surprised a lot of people. Boise St. had two players taken in the first round for the first time ever I think...though I have a friend who is a Bears fan and hated MaClelen (sp?) going there.
New England did a great job with their two picks taking Hightower from Alabama and Jones from Syracuse (brother of Johnny Bones Jones).
Lots of talent left out there today for rounds 2-3 and the experts say to expect more wheeling and dealing. Should be fun. We could even see Reynolds or Bergstrom come off the board tonight."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

It was nice to see two Broncos players go in the first round but I don't expect much from McClellin in the pros. He really didn't impress me much last year. Martin on the other hand should do real well down in Tampa.Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostBoise St. had two players taken in the first round for the first time ever I think...though I have a friend who is a Bears fan and hated MaClelen (sp?) going there.

The Patriots did well. Recently they've made it a habit to trade out of the first round and select some middling players with the later picks they got from the trade.
The AJ Jenkins pick is a pretty clear sign that the Niners don't think much of Michael Crabtree. And really there's no reason to think much of him at this point. With that said, I wish they would have just kept Josh Morgan. I do feel infinitely better about Jenkins than the Crabtree pick from three years ago. Crabtree was clearly a system receiver at TT, and it masked the fact that he didn't have speed or size. Jenkins has elite speed and he was highly productive in an otherwise mediocre offense. Plus he's a smart kid.
The Giants reached for a RB. Three RBs in the first round, surprising.
Why do teams always convince themselves on guys like Tannehill every year? Weeden completed around 70% of his passes against the same competition that Tannehill completed 62% against. Weeden is 27, but Tannehill will either be out of the league or 3rd string when he's 27.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

They also played in much different systems. And college success doesn't mean nfl. success.

I'm a little surprised SF didn't go with Stephen Hill, Ruben Randle or Alshawn Jeffrey.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostThe Patriots did well. And teams have told themselves that countless times and picked guys like Tannehill. On the flip side you also have the David Klinglers who are the system guys that also fail. Fact is, teams consistently reach for QBs.Originally posted by Maximus View PostThey also played in much different systems. And college success doesn't mean nfl. success.
Still 60% is what's expected out of a middling QB in the NFL and Tannehill only completed about 62% last year, i highly doubt his completion won't drop with the better competition. He was #56 in passer rating and #67 in yards per attempt last year, an enormous drop off from Luck and RGIII's numbers.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I will readily admit I am ignorant when it comes to the draft and players and why one guy gets drafted and another doesn't.
Therefor I ask this question. A year ago I thought Reynolds was a sure 1st rounder. Were the experts just dead wrong or did he digress as a player?

I never heard he was a first rounder. Way too fat and out of shape to be a first rounder.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI will readily admit I am ignorant when it comes to the draft and players and why one guy gets drafted and another doesn't.

Going into his Junior year, Reynolds was identified as a late first rounder by Todd McShay, but that quickly faded with his on field performance. 2 years later, he's still expected to go in rounds 2-4.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI will readily admit I am ignorant when it comes to the draft and players and why one guy gets drafted and another doesn't.

Randle and Jeffrey don't have the same speed and Hill supposedly has had some academic issues and his "attention wanes" (uh oh). You don't need a genius at WR, but, IMO, an all Big 10 Academic who runs a 4.39 who produced over 1200 yards last year in that offense at Illinois should be a safer bet than a lot of guys. I also read that he' a great route runner and that St. Louis planned on picking him with the first pick in the 2nd round.Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostI'm a little surprised SF didn't go with Stephen Hill, Ruben Randle or Alshawn Jeffrey.
Apparently Baalke planned on picking him all along and like Aldon Smith last year, initially it looks like a reach. The reality is that this kid is a better bet than Michael Crabtree was 3 years ago.Part of it is based on academic grounds.
