I've been entertained by the WBC this year. In watching the US annihilate Cuba, I am reminded of an old Cuban neighbor I had in DC 20 odd years ago. He once stated his dream of the regime falling and getting an MLB franchise based in Havana. I think about that often and really do hope it becomes possible one day.

USA getting walloped by team Italy is an abomination. They are in serious threat of not even advancing out of the pool. Embarrassing. All the other international teams taking this seriously but the Americans (and Harper in particular) just can't be bothered.

I'm reading that USA was resting players on the mistaken belief that they had already advanced to the quarterfinals? That's bonkers if true.

Yeah, I saw the manager's quote post game indicating that was the belief. Yeesh

If they don't advance I will laugh.

More than you did at the end of Old Yeller? It'd be kind of the same thing...

I still remember mocking my 6th grade English teacher when he cried reading the end of that.

What’s wrong with crying at the end? I’ll admit that I cried at the end of The Dirty Dozen.

Huge difference between the sacrifice of James Brown's heroic character and a rabid dog being put down.
