I agree on the relative importance of it. It is a small factor in evaluation among other, more important factors. But his example of Blake Griffin was just plain awful. Griffin measured as one of the great big-man athletes of all time. If you think a guy is an explosive athlete like Griffin or Howard, and his vertical leap is significantly less, you know you aren't getting the explosive athlete you thought.
But if you thought he was an explosive athlete because you watched him, you are almost certainly right and his vertical measurement will confirm it.
IDK, I read what you posted and when I saw Jason Smith's measurement again thought it wasn't that crazy of an example. I know Smith can jump, but I would never guess in a million years that he has better hops than Griffin, and I still don't think he does because of the testing (just like I don't believe Igoudala's vert. is only one inch better than Redick's).
As for Durant, he couldn't bench, but that was about it. He measured out really tall, long, with a decent vertical. A little low on his no-step and a little high on his 3 step. His max vert was the same as Carmello, Aldridge, Felton, Chandler
No, the bench wasn't just it. He finished as essentially the worst athlete in the entire draft (78 out of the 80 combine participants, with similar measurements to the last two).
Durant couldn’t muster ONE rep of 185 lbs. Despite being known for his athleticism, his vertical leap of 33’’ ousted only Josh McRoberts and Spencer Hawes. His speed and agility also were put into question when he turned in the fourth-worst sprint time (3.45) and the last place lane drill time (12.33).
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Maybe it was a particularly athletic draft, but his max vert of 33.5 is not bad by any standard. It is pretty close to average for guys drafted in the top 15. Granted, he was slow in the agility drills. But Durant is probably a bad example because the testing isn't so important for a guy like him who blew away the competition on the court as a freshman. I think it is important for a guy like Kanter.
Now, if you want to talk about someone who tested has a terrible athlete...let's talk about DeMarcus Cousins.
I'm kind of surprised he'd stiff Utah like that. Seems like being able to go to a team with a fellow Turk would a good situation for him.
What's the Raptors situation at the 4/5? Is his plan here to try and land with a team that has more minutes available at those positions?
Ed Davis and Bargnani in Toronto. I thought all Euro players were supposed to love playing in Toronto.
Sounds to me like he thinks he'll get picked at 1, 2, or 4, and if that doesn't happen he wants to ensure that Washington gets him. I do think Washington is a solid fit because of McGee next to him.

Now hearing Jazz will spend all day with Enes Kanter on June 2nd in Chicago. Will see him workout + interview. He's not dodging Jazz.
Also, on Irving and Williams coming in at 10% boy fat. This may only tell us that they haven't been starving themselves because their selection at the top is certain.
Also, I wonder how they do the body fat measurements. I'd hope its one of the high tech ones and not just using calipers, or the results are going to be off. Anyway. 10% is nothing to be concerned about unless they just got down to 10% from much higher and can't maintain it. I doubt that's the case.
Valanciunus (likely top 10 pick) was said to have potential contract issues that could keep him from coming to the NBA for a while. But looks like that's not right.
According to his team in Lithuania, he's under contract for 2 years. But the team is in financial trouble and it sounds like they don't think he'll be back. They are probably looking for someone to pay them some cash to get out of the contract.
DraftExpress rates him as the best big man prospect in the draft.
Funny that you can find articles saying Jimmer has really helped his stock this week and other articles saying Jimmer didn't look like he was trying very hard and that will hurt him.
So probably Jimmer still goes in the 12-18 range I think.

That not trying hard story sounds bogus anyway. They were shooting drills and he was making all his shots.
You're probably right about his draft range not changing.

I don't think there is any way he drops past the Knicks at 17.
• BYU's Jimmer Fredette helped himself again on Thursday. He made shots, he didn't look like he was out of place athletically and, as always, he interviewed well. A number of teams told me that Fredette is a known commodity. He won't be a star, but he will score off the bench and deliver offensively in spurts when needed.
