They're saying Belt will be optioned back to Fresno. I don't get it. That kid needs to play everyday and not get pulled up and down every other month from Triple-A.

As I'm sure you saw, the Belt optioning didn't happen, which is good, I really like him even though he's awkward. Yesterday was a fun day to follow all the twitters/rumors/etc and see it all go down. Capping it off with a nice win over the Phillies was even better.

The question is, what will make the trade worth it? Honestly, I think winning the West will make it worth it. It's a tight race and the Giants need every single win. If we can stay in first place or close over the next month, I think we get it easy. Until then, we have the Phillies for 5 more, in Atlanta, in Florida, in Cincinnati, but after that we don't leave the pacific time zone and play only NL West teams + Cubs/Astros who are a joke.

If you don't make the series, it wasn't worth it, IMO. You were already going to win the West.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

I'm just not convinced we were, I'll be the first to admit we're getting lucky a lot. If we go to the playoffs, hopefully we see the Beltran of '04. With all the sellouts AT&T has been having, I would've preferred paying more of his contract and giving up a lower prospect than Wheeler, but I'm also not terribly concerned either since the Giants were due for a pitching prospect bust after the success of Cain, Lincecum, and Bumgarner.

          Sanchez is also home grown.

I agree with you about them being due for a bust. Also Brian Sabean said that Wheeler does not crack this rotation for at least 3 years if not 4 or 5. So that is why they felt like he was expendable.

Gary Brown on the other hand could be the opening day center fielder next year.

Just another 2 of 3 from the Phillies in their house.

I saw a stat passed along by Rob Neyer on the tweeter today that Buster Posey had 5 opposite-field HRs last season. The entire team has 2 so far this year.
I have nothing else to say at this time.

I'll be cheering against the Giants for the remainder of the year. Sabean indicated that they'll play the kids next year if things get ugly (...then what are they now?), which I'm all for. Rowand and Tejada gone, perhaps Zito will be next.

Hopefully this is our opening day lineup next year:

                  CF Brown
2B Sanchez (I like Kepp, could he be a utility guy?)
                  3B Sandoval
                  C Posey
                  LF Belt
                  1B Pill
                  RF Schierholtz
                  SS Crawford
                  P ----

Throwing in the towel? I guess I can't blame you. It's interesting how all the good luck SF has last year is being paid back, in spades, this year.

I'll still watch the games and follow, but I'm afraid that if we make the playoffs, we'll stick with the hired veterans model, whereas I'd prefer new blood. I'm more excited for spring training '12 than '11.

I was just thinking this morning that we can pretty much stick a fork in them. They have been awful since the break.

Is Beltran 1 and done for the Giants? Do you see Cody Ross or Torres back next year?

I would be glad to see Pablo and Burrell (Mr. Clutch - 2010 World Series) gone next season. They are old and are dragging the team down.

Pablo gone? Old? He's 25 (perhaps even younger since latin players often say they're older than they are). Perhaps you meant someone else. Def get rid of Burrell, which I think will happen, much to the chagrin of the ladies in Cow Hollow.

Beltran and Ross are free agents, I wouldn't sign them unless they were cheap and Beltran won't be with his history and Boras as an agent. I think they'll be able to keep Torres, mostly b/c he'd be pretty cheap still. Not sure of his contract situation.

                          • I think they're batting like .187 with runners in sp since the break. Sucks. They have only one player in the top 50 in rbi in the NL - that's Huf at #50. Sucks. PS leads the team with 18 hrs (iirc) and he was out for like two months. Sucks.

But...mark today's date. They still have a run. It will start today.

                              • I don't follow @McCovey Chronicles but Rob Neyer retweeted this and I found it painfully hilarious:

...and that's a two-run double from a simulated hitter. Giants down by two. RT @hankschulman: Zito is throwing a simulated game right now.
