Of their 13 wins at home this season, 7 have been walkoffs. 10 have been by one run. They don't score a lot, but it sure is exciting.

The worst loss in a long time. They come back down 4 in the 9th to tie it, only to not only lose in the 12th but possibly lose Posey for an extended period of time. I would be shocked if Poseys ankle is not broke.Originally posted by filsdepac View PostWell, there goes the season. Almost a year to the day that Buster was permanently called up, so sad.
The only bright side is Fontenot is hurt too, give Burriss some more PT.Last edited by cougjunkie; 05-26-2011, 08:09 AM.*Banned*

That was an ugly collision. Mike and Mike were having a discussion this morning on whether this injury may be an impetus for change on how catchers and runners are allowed to interact at the plate.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThe worst loss in a long time. Someone should do a study to see the cost-benefit of blocking the plate: how many runs are saved vs how many runs are lost due to injuries. It's the type of question Bill James used to try to answer back in the old "Baseball Abstracts" 25 years ago.Originally posted by filsdepac View PostWell, there goes the season. In this case it was in extra innings with the game on the line, on top of that the throw was on the money but due to the collision Posey could not corral it. Without Cousins launching himself in to Posey he is most likely out.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostSomeone should do a study to see the cost-benefit of blocking the plate: how many runs are saved vs how many runs are lost due to injuries. That's the thing, Posey is the model player too. ROY, WS winner, yet about as humble as you can be. He's exactly what the sports world needs for the kids, a great example of someone who is a hero, but not a prick.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostAlways sucks to see a good young player go down for an extended period. Sucks. Man, he is such a good kid.
I think it was a hard play, but not a dirty play. Yes, he jumped, shoulder-down, about ten feet from the plate, but if the teams were reversed, I would be ok with it.
That being said, they'll still need to give Cousins one in the back today. My guess is FLA doesn't play him. That means Vogelsong will have to give one to their catcher. That's just the way it works.

[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6592212"]Agent Jeff Berry wants rule change after Buster Posey's injury - ESPN[/ame]
I realize Posey's agent may have just have hundreds of thousands of dollars wrapped up in the vitality of Posey's career, but I couldn't disagree more.
The only reason catcher's are "vulnerable" is because they intentionally put themselves in harm's way. It's unfortunate for Posey (I echo what everyone else is saying...he's a great player and exactly the type of person baseball needs right now), but he was in front of the plate on a close play in extras. It would have been nice if Cousins had slid in, since the plate wasn't technically blocked, but there just isn't always enough time to make the best decision on those plays.
I hope he heals up nicely and tears it up in San Fran for many years to come, but baseball has to stick with the rule as is (unless they want to have an "automatically safe" rule if the catcher is in front of the plate).Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
