Deron only throws teammates under the bus.

If you score 43 points against the No. 4 team in the country, people are bound to notice. But if you have scored more than 40 in three of your last four games and lead the NCAA in points per game, you'll be considered "the best scorer in the world".

"As soon as he gets on the court (he's in range)."

While that last statement by Kevin Durant may be a little bit of an exaggeration, Jimmer Fredette is generating a lot of publicity for his recent performance.

I recently talked with Deron Williams, point guard of the Utah Jazz, about the latest national media sensation.

Just how good is Jimmer?

"He's a pretty good player," Deron said with obvious understatement. "I've watched him a lot the last week or two."

"When Ronnie Price told us about (Fredette) at the beginning of the season, everybody was a little reluctant - but he's got everybody's attention now."

While Jimmer has been a solid performer for the Cougars, leading them to a 20-1 record this season, its his play as of late that is drawing attention.

When I asked Deron what aspects of Jimmer's game he really likes, he said, "He just can play. There are no real weaknesses in his game. He's putting his team on his back, carrying them. Take him off that team and I don't think they're anywhere near as good as they are."

Need a deep three-pointer? Jimmer, who doesn't seem afraid to launch one up from 30-feet, obviously doesn't have a range issue and D-Will agrees.

Derrick Rose on Jimmer and BYU:

Rose played with Jimmer at the USA Basketball camp last summer in Las Vegas.
Rose said he hopes BYU becomes the next Memphis, a team from outside the power conferences, and makes the Final Four.
"I'm glad for him," Rose said. "I hope he continues to [lead] the nation in scoring and I hope their team continues to win, because it is almost like we were ... They're making so much noise that people have to pay attention to their team."
Rose was also asked about Fredette as a person.
"He seemed cool, just talking to him. Not big-headed or anything. Real respectful guy. That means a lot."

Sportscenter does All-Access this morning with Jimmer. They had shots of practice and some bowling between him and Jackson Emery. Jax bowled a 144, Jimmer a 93.

Max Bretos of ESPN says "If he starts bowling that would be the best thing to ever happen to that sport".

Also Jimmer is one 40 pt game away from matching the football team in 40 pt games.

Adrian Branch on espn radio, "Jimmer Fredette and Blake Griffin are the two most exciting playing basketball today". He and the other college basketball guy said Jimmer reminds them of Chris Jackson and a young Gilbert Arenas.

Went to the gymmer this morning rocking my 32 t shirt.

Took off my sweatshirt to reveal the shirt underneath and 2 people across the room yelled "go Jimmer!"

I'm pretty sure they didn't think I was actually Jimmer, but in His honor, I upped my bench to 40 pounds. Bench press: You Got Jimmered!

In a miraculous turn of events, I have convinced my wife to hop in the car and drive from California to Utah the weekend of Feb 12 to see Jimmer and the Cougs take on the Utes. I could only find nosebleed seats, but with my young kids coming along that's probably for the best. I couldn't be more excited. This will be my first game in the Marriot Center since 1995. None of my kids have ever been to a BYU basketball game. Now I just have to hope that his Jimmerness doesn't get injured between now and then.

BYU's Jimmer Fredette and Connecticut's Kemba Walker have stormed through the season with jaw-dropping performances that have lifted their teams into the Top 10 and has them both in contention for player of the year honors. The only thing harder than guarding one of the two is figuring out which of their games rocked college basketball more than the others.

Take Fredette. He scored 47 points against Utah and 42 vs. Colorado State. Either of those stellar performances would be a career highlight for about any other player. It's just not the best for the player who sparked "Jimmermania."

Walker scored 42 points in the second game of the season against Vermont, a sneak peek at was ahead for the junior guard who's making the Huskies forget all about last season and put their sights firmly on a deep tourney run in March.

Fredette and Walker — oh, to heck with proper names — Jimmer and Kemba headline a list of six standout performances to remember with the best of the sport still ahead.

One name says it all. Like Oprah. Magic. LeBron. You know exactly who is being talked about when you hear the name Jimmer. That will be a great game. No doubt that BYU will bust out the white curtain intro for the Utah game. After watching the Utes roll out the dry ice machine and 40 foot extension cords at the Dumpsman Center, I'm sure BYu doesn't want to get upstaged.
