  • Looks like the media in Miami is reading CUF..

    http://www.foxsportsflorida.com/11/1...28&feedID=3682

Among the misery in Miami on Tuesday night:

    1. Paul Millsap, he of the 10.1 points per game average over his career, notched 46 points.

    That's 46. Points.

After Emeka Okafor's 26-point, 13-rebound game in New Orleans last week, let's dump the spin and say it: The Heat frontcourt has serious defensive problems.

Bosh, Udonis Haslem and Zydrunas Ilgauskas are not getting it done.

    2. Elite point guards do, in fact, expose the Heat to big trouble.

Deron Williams had a double-double — in the second half alone — finishing with 21 points and 14 assists.

Before the game, Spoelstra rejected the suggestion that elite point guards cause his team trouble.

"It hasn't been an issue to me," Spoelstra said. "I answer your guys' questions. I think people are just searching for stories right now."

Well, it's a story now, whether one's searching for it or not.

    3. LeBron had a triple-double while going 5 of 18 from the field. Twice he failed to convert with time ticking away. One missed shot. One pass to Haslem, who then missed.

The King's got to find a way to show his subjects just how regal he can be.

Right now, that means being a closer.

    • Or CUF is reading the media:

Maybe it's true. Or maybe Pat Riley sees what I see. Chris Bosh is too soft to be the third wheel of the “Big Three.” You could see it Friday night when New Orleans center Emeka Okafor stitched clown suits for the Miami bigs in the Heat's second loss of the young season.

A career 13-point scorer, Okafor dropped 26 and 13 on the Heat, sinking 12 of 13 shots. Off the bench, New Orleans reserve power forward Jason Smith, a second-year 7-footer, added 12 points and six boards. Toss in Chris Paul's 19 dimes, and the Hornets pretty much duplicated the formula Boston used to upset Miami — excellent point guard play (Rajon Rondo 17 assists) and front-court dominance at both ends of the court (51 points and 31 rebounds from Shaq, Big Baby, KG and Paul Pierce).

It’s a formula the Utah Jazz will try to duplicate Tuesday night at AmericanAirlines Arena with Deron Williams, Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson. And then Thursday, the Celtics travel to Miami for a rematch.

        • Something about the letters "Pau" in succession this year translates to being a pretty damn good NBA player. At least according to Hollingers PER stats:

          1) Dwight Howard (30.53)
          2) Chris Paul (29.90)
          3) Pau Gasol (28.02)
          4) Paul Millsap (28.01)

Could he go for a quad-double at some point? I know CP and AK have come within an earshot...who was the last person to do it?

I would guess Hakeem or Admiral.

I think Hakeem did it once.

David Robinson was the most recent player. Only 4 in history of NBA.

                              • Ridiculous point guard play so far this season. Drum up the old stand-by comment by any NBA announcer when two of these guys play in the same game..."there are no off-nights for point guards in the NBA anymore."

(Not listing them in any particular order, other than the order they're listed in)

                                Chris Paul - 17.9 ppg, 9.9 apg, 5.3 rpg, 2.43 spg, 51% FG, 45% 3's, 89% FT

No matter how good anyone else has been, I don't think any other PG has touched Paul yet this year. The way they run their offense with him certainly contributes to his big numbers, but the fact that he can handle the ball that much and only average 1 TO/game and shoot the percentages he has is incredible.

                                Deron Williams - 21.5 ppg, 10.3 apg, 5.1 rpg, 45% FGs, 36% 3's, 84% FTs

His FT shooting is up, his rebounding is up, but he's got to control the turnovers (4/game). He's been at 50% from the field after the first 2 games. His assist numbers would be huge if he had any back court help that could shoot.

                                Derrick Rose - 23.8 ppg, 9.2 apg, 3.8 rpg, 44% FGs, 27% 3's, 75% FTs

Still getting it done w/very little front court offensive help. Once Boozer gets healthy Rose will be one of the 5 toughest guards to stop in the league.

                                John Wall - 19.3 ppg, 10.2 apg, 4.3 rpg, 3.17 spg, 44% FGs, 36% 3's, 77% FTs

Durant was really good rookie after one year of college. Wall's do it everything year so far is making Durant look like Glenn Robinson.

                                Rajon Rondo - 11.1 ppg, 14.8 apg, 5.5 rpg, 3.13 spg, 47% FGs, 53% FTs

Didn't list 3-pointers because he's only taken 5 attempts. How good could he be if he could just shoot FTs, let alone an 18 foot jumper? He's only on pace to break the NBA record for assists in a game while also being the best defensive PG.

                                Russell Westbrook - 22.6 ppg, 7.9 apg, 6.3 rpg, 2.14 spg, 44% FGs, 90% FTs

Has there ever been a top 3 talent in the NBA that wasn't the most important player on the team? Is that what we have with Durant playing on Westbrook's team? 22/7/6 from a PG with his defense and being able to hit 90% FTs?

                                Steph Curry - 21.7 ppg, 6.3 apg, 3.3 rpg, 1.83 spg, 52% FGs, 38% 3's, 89% FTs

Looking more and more like a point guard and less like Monta Ellis. He reminds me of Brandon Roy at the end of games, where I kind of don't expect him to be as good as he is but at the same time feel like he's going to score each time he touches it.

And even after listing those guys, that is leaving out Nash's 19 and 9 and absurd shooting yet again, Jason Kidd still being at 11 apg, Jrue Holiday going for 19 and 9 and making half of his 3's in November, and Tony Parker looking young again...and the new "point guard" on the block. When the year's over, are we going to think LeBron looks better emulating Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan?
