So stoked for tip off tonight. Signed up for League Pass. Now I get to stay up until 1 AM to watch the Lakers all year.

Big game kicking it off with the Celtics and Heat. I expect the Heat to come out and try and make a statement. But I think the Celtics do also. This should be a good game if it is not sloppy.

Lots of talking points and storylines around the league. Aside from the Heat and Threepeat, I think the development of two dynamic rookies, Wall and Griffin, will be the most interesting thing for me to watch.

Some predictions to kick off this thread:

    Western Conference Champs: Lakers
    Eastern Conference Champs: Celtics
    Finals: Lakers in 6

    ROY: Griffin
    6th Man: Odom
    DPOY: Howard
COY: Sloan (I think the Jazz finish 3rd behind Lakers and OKC and Sloan finally wins this award he's long deserved)
    MIP: McGee
    MVP: Durant

    The Heat win <62 games.

John Wall wins ROY and Adam Morrison wins comeback player of the year (assuming he made the wizards roster).
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

            Surfah, are you saying that:

            Heat wins < 62?

Assuming they stay healthy, I think winning more than 62 games is very reasonable. I think 63-65 feels like the magic number range for me, which would be more than 62.

In the West, I agree that I think the Lakers take it this year, though I think they're declining a little bit. They still end up as the number 1 seed, though I think it is closer than most people think it will be. I think the Midwest division race will be very close as well with Utah, OKC and Portland all fighting for home court advantage in the first round, and that two of those teams end up with it. Right now I think it is Utah and OKC, with Portland barely behind. I think like last year spots 2-6 (and maybe even 7) are within 3 games or so. Amazingly enough, I think the Clippers also slide in as the 8th seed in the West, and an LA-LA match up happens in the first round. I really like the Clippers core of Griffin and Gordon, and I think we all know Boom-Dizzle can get hot and be one of the best guards in the NBA when motivated. I think that would be a really fun series (has there ever been a series where all the games were played at the same arena?).

I think I may be crazy, but in a Jazz related note, I think CJ Miles finally turns into a pretty good player this year. Kid is only 23 but he's finally looking like an NBA player. This preseason he's continued his strong play from the playoffs and is shooting 45% from the 3 and 89% from the line, and from the little I've seen has continued to attack the basket. If he can continue to play like that and can put up 15 points or so a game, and have the Jazz fighting for the 2 seed, I think he could be a candidate for both 6th man and MIP.

Excited for the season. Should be fun.

I had beat you to it on the Clips (if my phone would have posted) but disagree on the Wiz. Although maybe I need to look at the (L)Eastern conference first before I make that declaration.

Yes I think they're going to win less than 62. For a couple of reasons. Mike Miller is out for awhile. I haven't seen any updates except that it was an indefinite period of time. But I suspect it has to be bad if they're going out and signing Jerry Stackhouse. I think health is going to be an issue for that team. I would not be surprised at all if Wade misses significant time. But the biggest obstacle to their run at 71 is going to be the competition. They have a huge target on their back. Every night they're going to get their opponent's best. I have seen it watching the Lakers all these years. When you're the man, everyone is trying to knock you down. They're going to play in sold out arenas every night and every team and their fans are going to want to punch them in the mouth. It will be interesting to see how the Heat respond.

I think that the Heat win 65+ games.
I think the Lakers struggle to care about the regular season and end up as the 3 seed in the West.
I think that BGR, SMR, SloanHater, Donut find a problem with something Jerry Sloan does in the first game of the season.
I think that Blake Griffin wins ROY.
I think Jazz win the NW Division, but get the 4 seed.
I think OKC is the trendy pick that struggles this year, maybe sneaks into the playoffs as 7 or 8 seed.

Miller is out until mid-December/early January, so yeah, that is a bit of a concern.

The reason I think they're better is there is not a team outside of LA that can match their "big 3". Wade and James alone were too much for most teams to handle. How do you double off of either one of those guys and leave a Bosh open? And it's not like their roster is filled with guys who are total scrubs either (though most are vets who are past their prime). If the team can stay relatively healthy, I don't see this team losing close to 20 times (that is losing almost 1 in every 4 games they play and I just don't see it).

Sorry I thought you were on the "Jazz would be much better if they had 15 coaches in the last 20 years" side. I'll remove you.

As of tonight...Sports Center is unwatchable until sometime in late June.

I wish we could flip flop hockey highlights for all the NBA slam dunks I will be forced to look at.

                              Oh yeah...go Jazz.
