That was a painful second half meltdown from the Lions. It was a really fun season, though, and they have some experience now. Here’s hoping they keep it rolling next year."What are you prepared to do?" - Jimmy Malone

I'm trying to figure out how the 49ers won either of the last two games. They didn't even belong on the same field with Detroit in the first half. Dan Campbell not taking the points on two different drives was monumentally stupid, I couldn't understand that.
Vegas actually has the Niners favored by 2 points, but I don't see it. Mahomes and this Chiefs team aren't going to melt down like Green Bay and Detroit the past two weeks. The Niners' defense was totally unprepared for Detroit in the first half and got lucky with some drops in the second half. As I mentioned before, even as Detroit was just running 9-10 yards a play on the ground, the Niners continued with the stupid soft zone defense. Why not make Jared Goff, of all people, beat you? Detroit's strength is their o-line and running backs. The Niners have an all-pro CB and, I think, a good 2nd CB in Lenoir. Take away the run and force Goff to make some throws. I guess they finally did this in the second half but they should have adjusted after the at least the second drive from Detroit.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Detroit outplayed and outcoached SF by a large margin in the first half of the game to the point that is was one of the more embarrassing halves of football I'd seen SF play. Thankfully, in the 3rd quarter, SF outplayed Detroit by an even larger margin than Detroit did in the first half. I view that as a bit of a benefit and a bit of a concerning point. Benefit because they're experienced, they've been here and they know what it takes and is needed. A concern because if they know that, they shouldn't end up in that situation to begin with. They set themselves up to need to plan an almost perfect half of football to advance, and they did.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI'm trying to figure out how the 49ers won either of the last two games. They need that same sense of urgency the full game in two weeks in Vegas if they want Lombardi #6. Can't get away with a half-game effort.

The Chiefs don't have a running game. Detroit had a great running game and the Niners beat them. The Niners will be fine. It cracks me up that the Niners are going to the Super Bowl, and all the genius's in this thread are cracking on what a bad job they did to get to the Super Bowl. There's a reason the Niners' defensive coordinator is going to Super Bowl and the rest of us here are just spouting dumb opinions about things we know little about. Is it because we couldn't stop Detroit's running game?Originally posted by Non Sequitur View Post

The NFC was wide open for the Niners. Detroit turned over the ball three times -- they fumbled the ball once and passed up field goals twice and turned over the ball on downs. If one of those doesn't happen, Detroit likely, at worst, finishes the game tied. Conversely, the Aiyuk Lynn Swann catch was an all-time break and Purdy made some ridiculous scrambles. Detroit's first half was based on team execution while the second half was based off a couple dumb decisions from Detroit, Aiyuk making a circus catch and Purdy making a handful of incredible plays. It's reminiscent of Atlanta's last quarter and a half against the Pats in the Super Bowl. Atlanta wins that game if one of around 10 different plays is slightly different.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View Post

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

The Vegas odds started, I believe, at 2.5 for the Chiefs and quickly went down to 1 point. Somehow the line is back at 2.5.Originally posted by Sizzle View Post

I am putting money on the Chiefs, literally driving down to Mesquite to do it. This way, I'm hedging against my disappointment if the Niners lose their 3rd Super Bowl in a row. Hell, there's even a possibility the Niners win by 1-2 points and the Chiefs still cover.
But in all honesty, I really don't like how the defense has been playing. I actually think the Niners' offense will play okay, but Andy Reid is going to run circles around the Niners' simplistic defense.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Well, I also think they're going to lose. From what I've heard, the only reason they favored the Niners is because Vegas is offsides on the Super Bowl futures bets from throughout the season -- so a ton of people have made Niners Super Bowl bet throughout the season. Vegas is hedging against this and trying to attract money on the Chiefs.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
