Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

    • A lot of things have gone wrong for SF this year, starting before the season.

Boone and Davis' holdouts hurt, as those are two players whose performance this year has been subpar.

Aldon Smith's suspension wasn't a great way to start the year either. Our pass rush has been a weakness, and not being able to practice I'm sure hasn't done SF any favors.

Injuries have taken their toll as well, missing Willis, Bowman on the defensive side of the ball. The secondary has had its share of injuries as well to Ward, Culliver and Brock.

Along the line, Iupati looks like a shell of the player he was. He must not be fully healed. Anthony Davis missed time early with a shoulder and late with a concussion. Staley had been banged up. Marcus Martin was hurt early, missed a lot of time and thankfully was able to come back right as Kilgore got hurt. Basically the entire OL has been hurt this year.

Then Kap hasn't progressed the way we'd like to see. It feels like his running had been completely taken out of the gameplan. He's not connecting on the deep balls. Our WRs aren't doing him many favors. Boldin has had his share of drops. Crabtree whines about being the 3rd option. Vernon Davis legitimately has disappeared.

Offensively, we're bad. I think most of the problems stem from the OL. No push for the ground game, no time for the pass game. We haven't been in sync all year. Play calling hasn't been very good either. The shifts and changes in alignment that SF used to get the upper hand either aren't working or aren't happening.

I was hopeful that they could make a run to end the year. But it's not looking good right now. Absolutely have to win out and have help if they want to make the playoffs. Which is sick considering how many games they should've won (Bears, Rams, Raiders) and just didn't.

      • Any kind of discussion about playoffs this year gets the Jim Mora response from me.

Kap and Roman are terrible. Time to start over on offense. Harbaugh is leaving, so bring in a new staff and draft the best QB available in the first round.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Yeah, I don't get that either. Kap has regressed big time, but the tools are still there. By all reports he's one of the hardest working guys on the team. The issues are so much deeper than Kap (read: he's not without blame) that I can't get too worked up.

Grantland wrote an article that hits my feelings almost exactly on the head. Here is the link:
            http://grantland.com/the-triangle/we...lts-cardinals/

The paragraph I think is dead on is here:
All of that is to say that it’s a team problem on the San Francisco offense. The 49ers are a mess in just about every way an offense can be a mess. That starts with the offensive line, a unit that was once the cornerstone of the team. Injuries, primarily to right tackle Anthony Davis (most recently a concussion) and center Daniel Kilgore (broken leg), have forced the Niners to start six offensive line combos this season, and none of them has looked particularly effective.

Swing tackle Jonathan Martin has been physically overpowered on the right side, a problem both during his time in Miami and here in San Francisco. Rookie center Marcus Martin was inconsistent before suffering a knee injury during Sunday’s loss, leaving the Niners to insert undrafted free agent Dillon Farrell, who will likely be at the pivot in their seventh line rotation, set to debut in Seattle next Sunday. Even former Pro Bowl–caliber guard Alex Boone has been disappointing. It wasn’t a surprise when Boone struggled early in the season after returning from his summer holdout, but the expectation was always that Boone would play his way into shape and return to his dominant form as the season went along. That just hasn’t been the case.
So much of what SF has been able to do has been because they've been able to control the line of scrimmage. They haven't this year. It means play action doesn't work. Combine that with what feels like a deliberate attempt to keep Kap in the pocket more and I think it becomes apparent why the team has struggled.

Figure out what's going on with the line. Who stays. Who goes. How healthy is Iupati? Get that fixed first, because I think the backs with Gore and Hyde are a tandem as good as any in the league. It also makes Kap's job easier. Start there, but if that isn't clicking, the offense won't work.

There is a good reason why they are trying to keep him in the pocket more... and Steve Young nails it. But like gregg said, it's not working because Kaep is a dumbass.

Rasheed Kaepernick. He can't take off those stupid headphones even for a post-game presser after playing like utter dogshit against the worst team in the league.

                        • Lowest scoring team in the NFC. Fifth lowest scoring team in the NFL. The combined records of the four lower scoring teams is 9-47.

At the same time, the only teams in the NFC that have given up fewer points are Detroit, Seattle and Arizona, their combined record is 31-11.

Greg Roman should never have another NFL job. Pick up RG3 off the scrap heap in the offseason, hire an adequate offensive staff and give Kaepernick a second chance with a short leash. The odds are stacked against either QB ever being a decent starter in the NFL again, so likely we'll have to eventually get lucky through the draft.

Uncle Pete's comments about Harbaugh leading up to the game this week were glowing and the two were all smiles joking around with each other before the game. It was weird. Kind of like that point where you've so thoroughly dominated the other guy you can no longer muster the energy to hate on him.

On a side note, this was the first game I've seen Harbaugh ditch the pleats for some flat-front khakis. I think the 9ers have to consider the season a success just on that.
