  • 49ers release Ray McDonald today after an additional incident involving an alleged sexual assault. Coincidence that it happens after they've been eliminated from the playoffs? Doubtful. What a knucklehead.

Also, Harbaugh reportedly offered a 6-year $48M deal to coach at Michigan, making him the highest paid college coach. Yeah, that's gonna be tough to turn down.

Good for Tom Rathman. But I was hoping he would join the staff of one of his other previous teams. I've heard he is not keen on leaving the Bay area...ever.

            • Why exactly was Trent Baalke picked over Jim Harbaugh? The Niners have had seven choices in the first and second rounds of the draft since 2012.

Two of those guys aren't even on the team anymore and everyone hated the picks when they were made.

One is a pro bowl player and another looks like he good be a very good RB.

Another two might not even be on the team in another year.

The first round draft pick from 2014 was on no one else's chart for the first or probably early second round and he sucked before he was injured this year.

The pro bowl player is a guy that Harbaugh pushed for, from what I've read, some of the busts were the result of Baalke thinking he was smarter than everyone else.

Look at these coaching hires, Tomsula and Lane Piece Of Shit Kiffin. WTF? I heard someone else mention in a column that he's never seen anyone ever get more undeserved jobs than Lane Kiffin. Ya think?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                  • Lame Kiffin as an OC is not a bad hire. Why is that a bad hire?? He did really well at Alabama and usc as an OC.

Didn't Alabama have a historically great offense? That, with a first year starting QB.

                      • Marc Trestman, who I thought would have been an excellent OC, decided to go with the Ravens.

And why not? How many teams have a better front office and ownership than the Ravens? The Pats, Seahawks, Packers and perhaps the Steelers? Compare it to the dumpster fire in San Francisco.

If reports are to be believed then Eric Mangini is the frontrunner for DC and Lane Kiffin as OC. Apparently Jim Harbaugh must have been an SU-calibre gaping asshole if they fire him for his personality and then turn around and go for Mangini and Kiffin.

Lane Kiffin must be the greatest interview of all time.

                          • I always thought trestman was underwhelming as the OC in his prior stint with the niners.
                            PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I think I like that Mangini has HC experience. It's just so foreign that he's a guy who was a TE coach last year (and the TEs sucked badly) and now he's the DC (which is probably a role he was better served for, honestly, given his experience on the defensive side of the ball).

Chud I think is the guy they want as the OC. And I think that's a solid hire. I don't think it ends up being Kiffin. It's just crazy that as dysfunctional as they were last year, they've hired two key pieces from the previous staff for two key roles, but let one of the best DCs in the game leave. The window for success is going to be small IMO. Hope things work out.

Jed York is still in his early to mid 30s, right? So we only have to deal with a shitty owner for another 40-50 years, that's a relief.

This is what a complete lack of self-awareness looks like. You fire a coach who just went to three NFC Championships, probably 27 of the other teams in the league would hire him in a heartbeat and then try to bullshit everyone that it was mutual and Harbaugh couldn't wait to leave. You fire him with absolutely no clue as to what the coaching staff will look like after he's gone. That cluelessness becomes apparent after he hire the defensive line coach after screwing Adam Gase. News of how the 49ers screwed Gase spreads around the league and confirms that the idiots behind that screwing were the more responsible parties in the Harbaugh split. Tomsula is regarded as a puppet of the phenomenally incompetent York/Baalke duo, so guys that have or could have jobs elsewhere as coordinators/assistants don't want to come near this trainwreck.

So, instead of wondering how badly he screwed this up and ended up with Mangini and Geep effing Chryst as the coordinators and gaining some kind of introspection from the whole disaster, York is instead worrying about Harbaugh's display at the team museum.
