Projecting the rest of the Niners schedule and rating games as 25/75, 50/50 and 75/25.

@Det
50/50:
Tampa
NYG
@Zona
Pittsburgh
@Seattle
75/25:
Cleveland
Arizona
St. Louis
@St. Louis
If the Niners lose all three 25/75 games, win 3 of 5 50/50 games and win 3 of 4 of the 75/25 games, that's 9-7 and probably good enough to win the division. I think the Niners will end up at 9-7 or 10-6.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

If that happens, does Smith get a contract extension?Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostProjecting the rest of the Niners schedule and rating games as 25/75, 50/50 and 75/25.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Justin Smith ran down Jeremy Maclin, incredible.Originally posted by 8BR View PostTerrific highlights package here:

Bowman and Justin Smith were on fire yesterday; the 49ers have one of the best run defenses in the league.
Heading into this game against Philly, the Niners had the worst rated offense in the league. It was only three games, so it doesn't mean a ton and the Cowboys and Bengals both have decent defenses. But sometimes with a new offensive system it takes awhile to get things nailed down. The Niners averaged 6.4 yards per rush yesterday, so maybe the first round o-linemen are beginning to come around.
Aldon Smith is now playing, he had one and a half sacks yesterday. The Niners have been doing well with many of their first round picks. Crabtree has been somewhat disappointing, Iupati has been very good, the jury is out on Anthony Davis, Vernon Davis is a top 3 tight end. Joe Staley has been good. Patrick Willis may be the best MLB in the league. Crabtree I think will continue to develop, but he won't be elite. I'm worried about Anthony Davis. Aldon Smith looks like he may be good. Kentwan Balmer was a bust, but he was also picked at the very end of the first round. Manny Lawson was a guy you could rotate in for a 3-4 defense, but there's a reason why the Niners let him go. If you can bat .500 on getting blue chippers in the first round, that's very good, but it would be nice if the remaining players aren't busts. I would rather have the Niners track record than that of a lot of teams -- Willis, Iupati, Vernon Davis and Staley are all very good players.Part of it is based on academic grounds. The 49ers have been solid in the draft, but not spectacular. Vernon Davis, Willis, and Iupati are all either in the top 3, or likely will be in the top 3 of their position groups. They've lacked consistent QB play and an edge rusher. Aldon Smith was a bit of a head scratcher at the time, but if he can be a dynamic edge rusher, and I really like the fact that he can play a 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 end, then the pick looks solid. You have to hit on picks in the top 10-15 of the draft, which SF has done a decent job of doing. Vernon Davis and Patrick Willis were definitely hits. The other three (Alex Smith, Anthony Davis and Michale Crabtree) the jury is still out on them (can't include Aldon Smith either way yet, so I guess the jury is still out). Alex Smith had looked like a bust until recently. With the power of hindsight...Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostJustin Smith ran down Jeremy Maclin, incredible.

Smith: Aaron Rodgers looks like the much better pick, but given the turmoil Smith has dealt with, I'm not sure Rodgers would have developed either in San Fran. I was ready to sell on Alex Smith, but given the new life Harbaugh has breathed, I'll give him a little longer. For being a 7-year vet, he's still pretty young.
Michael Crabtree: Yes, I think I would rather have Michael Oher, Clay Matthews or maybe even Brian Orakpo than Crabs, but WR was definitely a need for San Fran and Crabs had a very polished resume. His injuries and QB issues have hurt development. But I still don't get too upset about this pick.
Anthony Davis: This is the only one of the three that I really have to shake my head at. I would have liked Earl Thomas from Texas at this pick, as I think Safety was also a big need and Thomas is a player. I also wouldn't have minded going with Bryan Bulaga as I felt like he was a player who was more ready to come in and play right away and actually fit the run oriented offense well. But Davis is still young enough that I think he can turn it around, though probably not as an "elite" OT that you hope to be picking at 11.

JH giving a sunday school lesson during yesterday's presser...
HARBAUGH: There was just a little saying around the house my dad would always use: ‘Who’s got it better than us?’ We’d all respond, ‘Nobody.’ We could be driving in the car, just whatever we were doing, he’d say it and we’d respond ‘nobody,’ and we really thought that. We didn’t think there was anybody else who could possibly have it better than us. And then as you get older you realize people do have it better than you do but in the case of the house, it was a really small house.
I had a chance to go back there and look at it when I was scouting players at the University of Iowa. It was like two bedrooms, three kids, a mom and a dad, living room, kitchen. All was the same. I don’t know how many square feet it was. I looked at it and said, ‘This is the smallest house I think I’ve ever seen.’ But we didn’t think so as kids. My dad would say: ‘Isn’t this great, you and your brother get to share the room, you can talk philosophy, you can share each other’s dreams. Who could possibly have it better than you two guys?’ We thought nobody. That was kind of the idea. Sometimes you’d walk out of the house and there would be a car there and sometimes there wouldn’t. When there wasn’t, it was, ‘Hey, we’re walking today,’ get the basketball and start dribbling it.
Just realized that, as you look back on it, the message there was not having things handed to you, things not coming easy are really the blessing because you’ve got to overcome some things. If it’s harder then it makes you better in the long run.
I really wanted to be a major league shortstop growing up. I had a glove. I had baseball diamonds to play on. There are kids down in the Dominican Republic who are making gloves out of milk cartons. I didn’t stand a chance to be a major league shortstop. Those guys had to overcome so much more that made them better players in the long run.
We just try to find ways to make it harder on ourselves. How can we make things suck more than they do?

Interesting comment here from Frank Gore on Alex Smith:
It seems like an interesting shot at the old regime(s)."It's Alex's first time having someone who really can understand him and show him the quarterback position and put him in great situations," Gore said. "Coach Harbaugh is doing a great job with him. Alex is balling.""They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
