I dont think the Niners will be in a position for Luck. I hope a talent like Luck doesn't end up with most of these teams. They either have crappy ownership or a just crappy teams in crappy locations. One team that stands out on the list that's not crappy is the Broncos.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Rough loss yesterday. Interesting coaching decision in the 4th quarter when the Niners made the 55 yarder. There was a penalty on the play, which would've given the Niners 1st down on the Cowboys' 33 yard line, with 11 minutes left and a 7 point lead. Harbaugh chose to not take points off the board.
I think personally I would've taken the fresh set of downs, being able to run out the clock more and potentially score a TD, but it's a tough call.

Yeah, it was a heartbreaking loss.Originally posted by filsdepac View PostRough loss yesterday. Interesting coaching decision in the 4th quarter when the Niners made the 55 yarder. Opening the season at 2-0, heading to a winnable game on the road in Cincinnati, would have been nice.
As with any game, there is no one reason they lost, be here are the first few thatstand out:
1. The safeties were a disaster in the second half (looking at you Williams). Missed assignments and late pickups led directly to two long TDs.
2. Coaching decisions. I love the JH hire. I'm still very stoked he's a Niner. But the decision to turn down the penalty was a disaster. It would have put them on the Dallas 22, with a fresh set of downs. Even if they don't score a TD, they eat three more minutes of clock. I get what he's thinking – up 10 at home, play defense, walk out with the win. But he had to see that Romo was killing the safeties in the second half. More than just the 3 points he needed to shorten the game.
3. Coaching decisions II. They looked great in the first half, but made no adjustments in the second half on offense. The first down runs out of the two TE formations were way too predictable.
Gore had 20 carries for 47 yards. Roman has got to get better on those calls. Yes, the O-line sucks (see the six sacks), but they went way too conservative too early.
4. AS’s TO at their 25. You have to see that tailing coverage. That's a must.
Oh well. Here's to 2-1.
And WTF with all the Cowboys fans at the 'Stick?

Very stoked to be 3-1 at this point with 2 road wins and only an OT loss at home to the Cowboys (stupid Cowboys...).
I didn't catch any of the game (stupid Cowboys...) but looking at the box score, it looks like they played a great 2nd half coming back from down 17 to pull the win out.
These are the types of games SF lost last year (Atlanta game comes to mind) so I'm glad to see them coming away with a W instead of a L.

A. Smith may yet be a successful QB in the NFL. 22-33 today for 291 yards, 2 TD, no picks.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostVery stoked to be 3-1 at this point with 2 road wins and only an OT loss at home to the Cowboys (stupid Cowboys...).

Why am I having a hard time enjoying it? I blame it on my fear of playing just well enough to barely miss the playoffs but not enough to be relevant, and pushing all draft picks down enough that talent infusion via draft likely won't be significant enough to escape irrelevance for at least another year.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostVery stoked to be 3-1 at this point with 2 road wins and only an OT loss at home to the Cowboys (stupid Cowboys...).

I've said it before, but if anybody can turn AS into an NFL QB, it's Harbaugh. I'd love to see AS succeed, because their shot at landing Luck pretty much washed up with the W today.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostA. It's sooo much bigger than that. They were down 23-3 in the second half. On the road, to an NFC East team. That was a huge road win.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostVery stoked to be 3-1 at this point with 2 road wins and only an OT loss at home to the Cowboys (stupid Cowboys...).

Edit: What I mean is it's bigger than just "not losing" a game - which happened in ATL last year. They went out and won this game.Last edited by 8BR; 10-02-2011, 01:37 PM.

Because we've had the same issues since the early 2000s. The good news is the Rams are 0-4, Seattle is playing Atlanta and Arizona is playing New York. If both of those teams lose (which is likely) SF has a 2-game division lead 4 weeks into the season and nobody in the division looks very good.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostWhy am I having a hard time enjoying it? The team is still fairly young. I think the experience will serve them better than adding more talent, unless you're able to add a franchise level QB (Luck/Barkley/Kellen Moore... I'm missing somebody else here too). I'm not sure how big of a priority that will be though since we moved up to pick Kapernick last April.

Given how bad the NFC West is this year, the Niners could make the playoffs. The only real.threat to that are the Cards. The problem is that it looks they won't be a threat because the Saints, Packers and Lions all look a lot better.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostWhy am I having a hard time enjoying it? No, I agree. This (and last week) seem more like signs of a change in culture/attitude than just a win instead of a loss. Last year, the team finds a way to lose the game. This year, they find a way to win.Originally posted by 8BR View PostIt's sooo much bigger than that. They were down 23-3 in the second half. On the road, to an NFC East team. It was crazy. Once they were down 20, Roman opens up the playbook and next thing you know AS is chucking 20 yard pass completions all over the field to Crabs and company. He only had like 86 yards passing in the first half.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostA. Smith may yet be a successful QB in the NFL. 22-33 today for 291 yards, 2 TD, no picks.
