Don't know if any of you have been following him in single A, but he's killing it. Tonight he extended his hitting streak to 15 games going 2-3 with a grand slam. Over this streak he's hitting almost .500 with an OPS of 1.300. On the season he's hitting .383 now with 8 HRs, 29 RBIs, 11 2Bs.

      That's sick.

Wonder if they'll call him to AA before the end of the season or let him build confidence this year.

Heck, he may end up in triple A

Doubt he'd go AAA -- that level's not really for young prospects. Probably hits AA, then the bigs before the end of the year. At worst for September call-ups.

That's what they were saying as I was listening to the pregame of the Nationals on the radio.

Amazing what happens when a hitter can actually see. I can't believe he had been as successful as he had been without optimal vision.

I read one study that discussed distinguishing characteristics between life-long minor leaguers and hitters that make it in the bigs for extended careers. One of the most consistent differences was visual acuity.

He's batting 0.396 now. There's nothing left for him to prove at the A level; it's definitely time for a promotion.

Pretty unreal. He had something like 17 strikeouts before getting his new contacts. Since then he's had 5, had a bunch of walks and is knocking the ball all over the place.

But these slow starts are kind of his MO it seems. He started off slow at the JUCO he played at before going off. Same thing at spring training this year and again at Hagerstown.

Reports sound like he'll move onto the Potomac Nationals after the SAL AS game next month. I can't wait because Woodbridge is only about 20-25 miles away. I'll have take my girls and see if they can't get an auto.

Bryce Harper was spotted blowing a kiss to an opposing pitcher after launching a home run Monday. The kiss may have been provoked by some form of taunting, but it still broke about every chapter of baseball's proverbial unwritten rules book and won't soon be forgotten. Harper is an immensely talented teenager and should continue rising quickly through the Nationals' farm system, but he may want to tone down the cockiness before an opposing pitcher plants a fastball in his torso. My dad told me he was talking to an old bird dog the other day and this guy thought the Nats were going to push Harper to fail because they feel he needs some humbling. The problem is, I'm not sure you can get him in a position where he'll fail -- he just seems too good. Kid sure sounds like a asshat, though.

I saw the video here. There was a little bit going on between the two leading up to it. Harper was called out on strikes in the first on a supposed poor call. Harper got thrown at in the 8th in the head after the kiss. Then nearly drove that one out to. The day before he was HBP too.

You're right though. It seems like the Nats want to break him. Not sure they will. And frankly, I am not sure they should.

Also, he's rocking a mean porn stache and mullet/faux hawk these days.

It's cute how baseball apparently has unwritten rules about a batter not showing a pitcher up like that, but no unwritten rules about a hot shot prospect getting taunted every time he strikes out against some scrub that will probably never sniff the majors.

So many "baseball people" are idiots.

I never got the unwritten rules stuff. I remember a few years ago Curt Schilling was all butt sore about some Padres player that didn't just give up in one of the later innings so Schilling could have a no-hitter or perfect game.

You bet I have. I'm in a fantasy keeper league with some college friends - we drafted our teams in 2004 and have only had one or two rounds of supplemental drafts each year since, keeping our entire rosters from year to year. I picked up Bryce Harper on the waiver wire at the beginning of this season, so I've been following him closely. (I picked up Jesus Montero last year - I hope he finally makes it to the majors).
If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

Bryce Harper promoted to Class AA Harrisburg by Washington Nationals

They say he'll stay in Harrisburg the rest of the year.
                                Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
