In the first 3 games of the JUCO world series he went:

6-11, 8 runs scored, 2 hrs and 11 rbis.

He is a big huge douche but he can hit the shit out of the ball.

So how quickly does this kid get to the bigs? Will he arrive as fast as Jason Heyward did? In terms of age that is.

It all depends on what position he plays, as a Catcher he does not arrive until he is 21-22. If he switches to first base, OF or even 3rd base, I think he is in the bigs at 19 or 20.

Thats what most people said about Joe Mauer too. Thats why a lot of these catchers try to learn new positions. Every off season Pudge Rodriguez would go to the Bucky Dent academy and he would work on playing 2nd base. He has had serious longevity behind the plate but he could play another position if he needed too.

I can't remember where I read it (maybe someone linked it on CUF), but Boras is already trying to get the Nationals to do just that -- switch him from Catcher. I don't blame Boras, he wants Harper to play as many seasons as possible and to obviously make it to the bigs ASAP. Griffey Jr. played 54 games in single A as a 17 year old, a full minor league season as an 18 year old, and that was it.

To be fair, that looked like a horrible call. Unless the ball jumped in about a foot at the last second, that was a definitely a ball and it wasn't even close.

Seriously, that was one of the worst called strikes I've ever seen. That ball was over the inside of the right-handed batters box.

So Harper gets in his first game and strikes out twice. Filling in relief over the next couple of games he is 1-8. People start heckling him and calling him overrated. He's now 7-18 (.389) and has 5 RBIs. Not bad. He survived the second round of roster cuts but it's a foregone conclusion he'll be down in single A to start the season. The Nats are all pretty impressed with not just his ability, but his professionalism. Everyone says they forget he is just 18 and that none of them have seen an 18 year old like him before.

I've been through there 2-3 times driving across the country as I cut through there to catch I-70. It's about 2 1/2 hours away from me. I think I'll probably wait until he's only an hour away next year sometime to see the phenom.
