They are who we thought they were.

That's why Greg Miller's comments in the paper yesterday piss me off.

    • Rumor of a deal in NY:

      Knicks discuss deal for McGrady

By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports 2 hours, 47 minutes ago

The Houston Rockets are in the discussion stages of a complicated, three-team trade that would send Tracy McGrady(notes) to the New York Knicks, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The centerpieces of the trade would include the Washington Wizards shipping forward Caron Butler(notes) and center Brendan Haywood(notes) to the Rockets. The Knicks would send Al Harrington(notes) to the Wizards. For the Wizards’ part, they would still need another player, as well as a draft pick and cash to make this a workable scenario, sources said.

Other players and contracts would still need to be agreed upon for a deal to come together, but there is a framework to the discussions.

The Rockets have been peddling McGrady’s expiring contract of $23 million since exiling him in late December.
That would be a great deal for H-Town -- get two valuable contributors for a guy who was doing nothing.

Not sure how this would work out for NY. Harrington has arguably been their best player behind Lee, but McGrady could come in motivated trying to get a new K and really light it up.

If Houston could pull that off that'd be something.

          • Hey Jazz Fans: Thanks for the overwhelming response to the new “Ask Greg” section on utahjazz.com. I received about 200 great questions this week, I’m going to respond to the three that were asked most often:

            Dave from Riverton wrote:

I've been a Jazz fan for many years (before Stockton and Malone) and for the first time in a very long time I can no longer watch them on local T.V. Why are the Jazz no longer on KJZZ and only pay TV?

Well Dave, your question is a good one. The reason we moved all the games this year to FSN-Utah came down to simple competitive economics. Teams that televise their games on cable receive significantly more revenue per game than they do for those that air locally over-the-air for free. Many teams in the league had already been exclusively televising on cable for several years, and the reality is that as a small-market team, we needed that extra revenue from a cable deal in order to stay competitive on the court.

As you may remember, this past July the Portland Trailblazers made an offer to Paul Millsap who was a restricted free agent of ours. We could only keep Paul by matching the Portland offer, and the only way we were able to do this was by using the extra money we received from FSN-Utah for moving all of the games to cable. We felt like we would have been a worse team if we’d let Paul go, and in retrospect we think we made the right decision.

We know that there are many Jazz fans out there that miss not being able to see Jazz games for free on KJZZ-14, but we had to do the cable deal in order to keep providing to you and all Jazz fans a fun, exciting, and competitive team on the court.

            Stephen from Farr West wrote:

We have been so close for so long. Do you think we can win it with the team we have now? A few players have some expiring contracts and quite frankly I think we can win. But how soon will it be

There were about twenty questions asking what, if anything, the Jazz plan on doing to improve the team, do we plan on making any trades before the trade deadline on February 18th, and what are we thinking about Carlos?

Right now, I think we have a great team. The plan that Kevin O’Connor developed a few years back was to draft a point guard that could do for us what John Stockton could do, get some good, young players to surround him, and let them grow and mature together. For the past four seasons, that’s been our path, and I think that plan is right now starting to show its wisdom.

Over the past month, we are playing the best basketball I’ve seen in this building since John and Karl’s Finals years in ’97-98. These guys have exploded, and it’s fun basketball to watch. That being said, if a trade offer comes along that Kevin, Jerry and the basketball folks feel will make us a better team – now - we’ll look long and hard at it.

But we’re not looking to move anyone just to get under the luxury tax. Personally, I like what we have on the court right now, our team chemistry is great, the locker room is united, and I think we have a good chance to win the Western Conference and get back into the NBA Finals this season.

            Scott from Cottonwood Heights wrote:

Aside from the recent success on the court I have heard rumors you may update the court and uniforms while honoring the past with the "musical note" coming back. Make it happen

So Scott, you like seeing the old green uniforms back on the court! So do I. You probably saw a story in the newspapers last week about our contemplating “going retro” with the old logo for next season. We are in discussions with the NBA to see if that’s a possibility. We’ve had an outpouring of calls and emails this season from fans who support the change back to the old logo, and we’re seeing what our options are with the league to possibly make that happen. Stay tuned!

Keep those questions coming, and I look forward to answering more next week!

I'm likely overreacting, but the guy just always reeks of complacency and delusion. And I think he's being fooled by the recent success of the team. This team looks the exact same as they always have, and in previous years they've had stellar win streaks as well, only to fall flat because of their obvious flaws. The same thing is going to happen -- nothing about this team has changed.

Yikes, what a homer. SLC needs a simers/plaschke type that is always ripping the team regardless of what they accomplish.

If a 9-game win streak is truly the best basketball played by the Jazz in a decade, I think that speaks more to the decline of the team than to its readiness as presently constituted to be a championship team. He really believes this team could win the West and go to the NBA finals?

Well, he is the owner of the team. I think he has the right to be a homer.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I don't care much for Greg Miller's public persona (that's all I know about him) but I didn't see that much complacency in the article. Of course he's not going to say "we are really trying to make a big trade" or "we are going to trade Boozer." But he did say that they aren't going to make a salary dump for luxury tax purposes, which is a good thing.
Though he bragged about paying so much for the team at the beginning of the year, and then went and made a salary dump.

They're saving him for when they play a contender.

Actually, probably more accurate than a zing. If he's banged up, he should definitely rest. There's nothing to win right now.
