But pre-Lindsay I have little doubt it would've been Marvin Williams on those mocks ups instead of Favors.
And why not? He's a solid citizen and a veteran with no exceptional talents. It's not every day you have the chance to pay a blackhole of non-attention grabbing inconsistency $10M. That fact that he's coming off surgery should be a huge plus as well. You should embrace this opportunity, Mr O'Conner, and plaster his face across the Beehive State. From Fillmore to Beaver, from Tremonton to St. George; Marvin Williams IS Jazz basketball. <Goose bumps>.

    • Ford throwing a curveball in his new mock.

Analysis: Yes, the Jazz are in the hunt for a point guard. But from what I can gather (and the Jazz are notoriously tight-lipped) the team isn't in love with any of the point guards who would be left on the board (Shane Larkin and Dennis Schroeder are the two most likely here). They also need bigs (both Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap are free agents this summer) and it looks as if they're open to using the draft to help address that need, as well. The Jazz have been high on Nogueira for a while, but his performance at the Eurocamp might have sealed the deal for this lithe, long, athletic shot-blocker. I don't think he'll be around when they draft again at 21.

      • He has the Jazz getting Schroeder at 21 and claims they like Canaan a lot.
Analysis: The Jazz do need a point guard, and after a series of shaky workouts, I think there's a good chance Schroeder will be here when they draft at No. 21. The bigger question -- is Schroeder the point guard the Jazz would draft? The team also likes Murray State's Isaiah Canaan -- a lot. Do the Jazz go for upside or a proven guard with a little lower ceiling? Obviously, if the Jazz pass on Nogueira earlier, he'd be in play here.

        • Jazz have a "major" FO announcement tonight. It's either Jerry joining the FO, or KOC leaving as rumored earlier. My guess is the former.

I hope it's the latter but my guess is the former.

            • Why is KOC being pushed out? Or is this what he wants to do?

He apparently already sold his home here in Utah and has moved back east so it sounds like retirement or possibly a new opportunity.

                • It is indeed Sloan. Guess we'll find out what role soon.

Please tell me Jazz either trade up for PG they *really* want (McCollum/Burke) or go BIG at 14 (Dieng) and take one of the leftover PGs/BAP at 21. Isn't that their better option, considering their defensive needs (21st in league)?

I think you have their plan right. There's a chance either Burke, McCollum or Carter-Williams will be there at 14. The draft is that unpredictable. If they aren't, see them going for a big here (Nogueira, Olynyk, maybe Dieng) and then addressing PG at 21. Sounds like Larkin, Schroeder, Isaiah Canaan all strongly in the mix at 21."

                    • SALT LAKE CITY (June 19, 2013) – Utah Jazz President Randy Rigby announced today the return of Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan to the franchise as a senior basketball adviser.

In this role, Sloan will support the Jazz basketball operations and coaching staff through player evaluations at workouts, camps, and summer league; limited pro and regional college scouting; occasional practice observation; and as host of an annual prep and college coaches clinic.

Jerry Sloan on Kanter and Favors "they are young and it is as though they are already all - star's"
                        What does that mean?

I've been wondering about this new role for Sloan, and I think it could be very positive for the players. Instead of him having to be the head guy, and worrying so much about creating an environment that he wants, now he can just interact with the prospects and players at camp and workouts. There have been lots of references already of him sitting off on the side having a one-on-one with the draft prospects the Jazz have been working out. Sloan's perspective, attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to work ethic and doing things the right way should seemingly make him a great consultant. Will the young kids buy in? Do they understand enough who Sloan is to respect what he says the way they should? I don't know. But having Sloan and Malone around during these very important few seasons for Favors and Kanter can't hurt.

                        • Marc Stein reports the Rockets are still looking to get a 1st round pick in exchange for Thomas Robinson, so they can use that pick on a European guy who won't take any of their cap space this year.

Is there anyone at 14 or 21 that Utah would want more than Robinson if he were in this draft? Does this guy have some kind of contagious virus that he's gone from #5 pick to the Kings dumping him and Houston looking to do the same all within 1 year?

If Utah can really get him for the 21st pick I think you've got to do it. Worst case scenario is they give up the 21st pick for a guy who is a disaster, they don't pick up an option, and they're done. Best case, he turns things around, capitalizes on his talent, and they've got a 3rd big under his rookie contract and then a RFA after that. He played in a disastrous situation in Sacramento, and then hardly played in Houston as they were making a playoff push and didn't work him in to the rotation very much. Would he be worth the 14th pick? Reported bigs to be available there would be Nogeuira, maybe Steven Adams, Olynyk, Goberg, or Dieng. I can't imagine any of those guys rating more favorably than Robinson if he was in this draft. His salary would be about $2.2 M more than what the 14th pick would make this year, so maybe that has to factor in, but it shouldn't matter much when the Jazz might be signing guys just to meet the minimum cap number.

#21 for Robinson is a slam dunk. If that's on the table, they have to do it.

I didn't see much of him this year. What is he so undesired? 11.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per 36 minutes. Albeit on poor shooting % and a PER of only 10.9. In fact, all the advanced metrics are really bad on him. Probably why the Rockets are so down.
