Him going into black-hole mode can be modified with coaching. He has a lot of skills that most bigs in the league don't have. I would rather try and harness those skills than bring in a new guy and hope he develops those skills. It's not like we're going to land a Kevin Love type talent here. For Utah's market, I think Jefferson is a pretty decent asset.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostLast night was a good example of why. 20 shots, 18 pts. The Jazz clicked for 3 quarters because of good ball movement but in the 4th he went into black hole mode. I'm not saying big men are a dime a dozen but plenty of the statistics shared here bear out the fact that with minutes the younger bigs can and should be counted on."The mind is not a boomerang. Oh that Paul were 5 inches taller (Al's problems are more fundamental).Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostYou've got the black hole that can score in the post but doesn't get to the line, and then you've got the "big" in Millsap that has made ONE field goal on a post in his last 9 games, and has made 22 of his last 75 shots in the post (per Syndergy, tweeted by Locke)
At the price I'd rather go with underdeveloped talent and bring in a shooter or two.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostHim going into black-hole mode can be modified with coaching. I think both Jefferson and Millsap are pretty good assets. I like that regardless of how crappy your team/coaching is on offense, you can always throw it in the post to Jefferson and have a fairly good chance of getting a basket. Millsap scores more "garbage" type points - running the floor, offensive rebounds, open jumpshots, taking it off the dribble, etc - but is pretty effective. Both are adequate defensively. I wouldn't want to lose either, but it seems they are the only two pieces with value the Jazz have.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostHim going into black-hole mode can be modified with coaching. When you ask why people are in such a hurry to unload Jefferson, perhaps it's simply because they realize he's a guy who could get them something in return, at the same time freeing up minutes for Favors and Kanter. For my part, I'd be fine to see either Al or Sap go if they could get a decent PG back.I'm like LeBron James.

Bring in a shooter? That's a joke, right? We're the Jazz. We don't bring in shooters. The last 2 we had that could hit a perimeter shot was Jeff Hornacek. Whatever happened to Ronnie Brewer?Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostAt the price I'd rather go with underdeveloped talent and bring in a shooter or two."The mind is not a boomerang. I don't know about that. 35% eFG% on jumpshots last year and 38% so far this year. That's still pretty effing ugly, and in line with what he did on the Jazz.Originally posted by UtahJazzFan88 View PostActually becoming a decent jump shooter in Chicago. So Russell...what do you love about music? That is true, but Ronnie has also played a bigger amount of minutes this year, while I wouldn't be going out there and getting him for shooting, he has improved it a bit in Chicago.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI don't know about that. 35% eFG% on jumpshots last year and 38% so far this year. Based on what?Originally posted by UtahJazzFan88 View PostThat is true, but Ronnie has also played a bigger amount of minutes this year, while I wouldn't be going out there and getting him for shooting, he has improved it a bit in Chicago.
Two years in Chicago eFG% on jumpshots:
38%
35%
Last two years in Utah eFG% on jumpshots:
39%
42%
If anything you could argue his jumpshooting has gotten worse since he left. And I'm no sure what point you're making exactly with the minutes, but he played considerably more in Utah.
Actually, stepping away from the shooting stuff, in just now looking at his numbers what's shocking is how much his FG% has dropped off in Chicago. You kind of forget how good he was at make hard cuts toward the hoop and finishing in the Jazz offense. We don't have any wings with that skill right now (though Howard showed it a bit last night).
Utah: 52%
Chi: 46%So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

They have struggled to find any perimeter shooting, yes.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostBring in a shooter? That's a joke, right? We're the Jazz. We don't bring in shooters. I may have missed the discussion, but has anyone watched Machado? Just reading through scouting reports and looking at numbers, I'm at a loss as to how this guy isn't being mentioned as one of the top points in the draft with Lillard/Wroten/Marshall. Those three seem to have separated themselves and are getting back-of-the-lotto consideration, yet all seem to have fairly obvious blemishes. Lillard is more combo and not a superior athlete, Wroten is being projected as a point but is basically a bonehead that can't play point at all right now, and Marshall is slow and can't shoot for shit. Then you've got Machado doing this:
13.3 ppg, 10.1 apg, 5.2 rpg on 47.9 fg, 40.5 3pt and 82.5 ft. I mean, holy crap! Can you ask for more perfect point guard play in college than that? NBA draft says he has some physical limitations, but Ford seems to disagree.
The super quick point guard from Iona is not only leading the NCAA in assists, he's doing it against quality competition.Quick, athletic point guardHow do those numbers and that qualitative description not equal a lotto pick and one of the top points in a draft completely devoid of true point prospects?Excellent speed in the open courtSo Russell...what do you love about music? I don't get the part from Ford about quality competition. Iona has the 139th most difficult schedule, and some of the better teams on the schedule are Denver, Marshall, Long Island, and Loyola (MD).Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI may have missed the discussion, but has anyone watched Machado? I looked at their schedule and they played purdue and maryland early. Fords comment is from december, so that must be what he's talking about. Machado averaged 15 points and 13 assists in those two games.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostI don't get the part from Ford about quality competition. What's interesting is that Iona has been on TV quite a bit this season. I've seen bits and pieces of about 6-7 of his games - never been able to just sit down and watch an entire game, unfortunately. In the little I've seen, I've been impressed. In a game just this past week, I watched him rack up 8 assists in the first half. My only concern with him would be his height (looks to be about 6' even, maybe 6'1") and that he's a little thick. Those are minor concerns, because he can shoot it and really understands how to run a team and get guys easy baskets.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI looked at their schedule and they played purdue and maryland early.
