4-20 can't separate themselves? So who do you have at 3?
The fact that the players after 2, and almost all the way to 20 is good news....for teams picking between 15 and 25. If you could pick a year to be stuck in that range...this is a good year.

Jazz trade #3, #12, Bell to Minny for #2, #20, Flynn.

If that's what it took to get Williams, I think I'd do it. Pretty good value for Minny, especially if they aren't in love with Williams--and they aren't.

Mock 4.0 is up and the same for the Jazz.

Analysis: The Jazz have already had a number of workouts but the big one comes June 15 when Knight, Walker and Jimmer Fredette are all expected to work out for the team.

While it's still possible the Jazz go big with this pick and select either Kanter, Jonas Valanciunas or even Jan Vesely -- they're likely to try to select a franchise point guard if either Knight or Walker blows them away. If Fredette wins the battle on June 15, that could push the Jazz to go for a big man here and try to nab Fredette with the 12th pick.
Analysis: With Andrei Kirilenko heading into free agency this summer, the Jazz are set to lose their most versatile defender. Enter Singleton. He's not the most polished offensive player in the world (sound familiar, AK-47 fans?), but his ability to guard multiple positions and his size for his position are intriguing for the Jazz.

With Singleton rising on many draft boards, the question is: Will he still be here at No. 12? Teams with picks as high as the Raptors (No. 5) are looking at him. Tristan Thompson, Jimmer Fredette and Alec Burks are all possibilities here, too. Ditto for Bismack Biyombo.
Burks and Thompson both go before #12. He has Biyombo at 14, and I think you got to take a look at him at #12 if he's still there. Especially if you go Knight with the first pick.

My problem with drafting a guy out of college for his defense is that so many guys are overrated in terms of their ability and real impact defensively. It's the nature of the beast with no real measuring stick for what a guy does defensively. So you draft a guy who is terrible on offense and then you find out he can't really play a lick of defense despite the story his college reputation may have told.

I say this about Singleton because while the three games I saw of him are indeed a small sample size, he looked average defensively in two of the games and below average to terrible in the other.

In terms of the stats that can be measured - blocks and steals - he was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. They mentioned AK, but at least AK was a special shot-blocker at the forward position - had that going for him. Singleton doesn't even have that.

                      As they should be.

The Jazz are in a very unique situation right now. They're not a team totally lacking in talent. Jefferson is an interesting piece. Favors has tremendous upside. Devin Harris was an All-Star two seasons ago. Millsap is a phenominal 6th man. Hayward showed promise. They've got a pick at 3 and a pick at 12. There is nothing to say they can't move down from 3, or up from 12, potentially using GSs 1st round pick next year. Add to that the uncertainty of who will be the best players in the draft, there are a lot of guys that they could be taking, and a lot of guys they should be looking at in case somebody slides.

At 3, realistically, you're looking at IMO 3 players. Kanter, Williams, Knight and maybe there is a 4th in there that you consider, but those are the three guys I think you look at. If none of the three separate themselves, do you risk moving down to 6 to acquire another asset? What is the difference between Knight, Walker and Jimmer? IMO, there are about 12-15 players realistically I could see the Jazz taking, and I can see them being taken anywhere between 3 and 20 (assuming they trade down). I don't think there is anything right now that isn't on the table.

The Good: Vesely went 7-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from the three. The Bad: He was just 2-for-6 from the stripe & had 5 turnovers.

Jazz (at No. 3) & Raptors (at No. 5) both seriously considering drafting Vesely. From what I can gather, he helped his chances today.

Informal GM poll: Who's the best int'l player in the draft? Vesley 5 votes; Kanter 4 votes; Valanciunas 3 votes. All said it's very close
Would the Jazz go bold and take Vesley at 3?

I hope you're right. I don't really have any clear cut favorites in this draft and there isn't really anybody in play that I'm completely against the Jazz drafting, but if there is one guy I'd like them to stay away from, it's Singleton.

Doing what he just did in a championship win in front of KOC just made that a pretty likely possibility, IMO.

There is no way I pass up Biyombo at 12, assuming you believe he is 18 or 19. Even if you go big with the first pick.

I really don't see it. What is special about Vesely that makes him worthy of the #3 pick? He gets some comparisons to AK, but it doesn't look like he is close when you look at his blocks and steals stats. His FT shooting % is to big of a problem to overlook at age 21 for a guy who's going to play the 3. I just don't see it. Who is a comparable player in the NBA? A 6-11 SF who can't shoot and hasn't proven to be an elite defender? With his height and athleticism, you'd hope he's your Lamar Odom or AK. But both of those players are also effective at the 4. Could Vesely be? I don't know.
