It's all blurry at this point. Looking back, it sure was embarrassing that he couldn't will Luke Walton, Lamar, Smush, and Kwame past the Suns in that 2/7 matchup.

Agreed. It takes a truly great player like Baron Davis to be able to rally your rag-tag band of teammates and upset a high seeded conference foe.

Baron Davis and LaPhonso Ellis are obviously just cut from a different cloth than guys like Kobe or MJ who needed decent teammates to win. I think if the situation has taught us anything, it's that if a situation isn't going well, you should probably quit because things will probably turn out better for you down the road.

As impressive as that looks on paper, you and I both know how terrible the Eastern Conference was from 1999 (8 seed making the finals) through 2006. In most of those years, the 5th or 6th best team from the West had a better record than the 2nd or 3rd team from the East, despite playing the more games against the better conference.

Man the East was so terrible for so long. It still hasn't caught up, but at least now the top teams are comparable.

Before he left, Brewer never became the type of defender I'd hoped for when we drafted him. That said, the least shocking thing in the world is reading about how he's improved as a defender in Chicago. Hollinger picked him as his 2nd team all-defense at SG.

Second team: Ronnie Brewer, Chicago (minus-8.04). He's still not a shutdown one-on-one defender in the classic sense, but he improved drastically in this area with the Bulls after largely failing as a defensive stopper in Utah. The real asset Brewer brings, however, is his spectacular nose for the ball; Brewer is fourth in the league in steals per minute despite playing in a heavily structured defensive system that discourages gambling. Combining the two, he was one of the major reasons the Bulls' bench had such a monstrous defensive impact this year.

That's impressive but I'd attribute at least a portion of that success to the coaching philosophy. Opposite of the Jazz in nearly evey way and infinitely more successful. Hopefully Corbin learns from that.

At least that Warriors' pick next year is going to valuable.

Yeah, that's why I said it was the least shocking thing in the world to see he's improved since leaving the coach. Our defensive philosophy -- from individual to team -- has always been a major fail.

I'd much rather have these guys declaring in this draft rather than next year since the GS pick is potentially quite a bit lower.
