The series lasted less than an hour.

The Jazz were supposed to be losers in the free-agent game after the Bulls and Blazers took turns raiding their roster. Chicago nabbed Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver, while the Blazers signed Wesley Matthews to an onerous, front-loaded offer sheet that the Jazz elected not to match. Suddenly, three of last season's top eight players, including the leading scorer, were gone.

The Jazz, however, put themselves arguably in better position than they were last season with a couple of brilliant saves. First, they executed a trade for Minnesota big man Al Jefferson that cost them relative peanuts. Jefferson not only fills Boozer's position, it also shores up a potential hole left by Mehmet Okur (Achilles injury) and allows Paul Millsap to move to a starting gig at power forward.

On the wings, the Jazz drafted Gordon Hayward and signed veteran wing (and one-time Jazz) Raja Bell to a three-year deal. It's unlikely that they'll replace the production that Korver and Matthews delivered last season, but they cost a fraction of the money and allow the Jazz to stay competitive without a burdensome payroll. As a result, Utah sidestepped a potentially ravaging summer and is in good position to make further upgrades once Andrei Kirilenko's $17 million anchor comes off the cap after next season.

The Jazz all of sudden find themselves in a pretty good spot. They have a proven young core of Williams, Jefferson and Millsap (ages 26, 25 and 25), and they have some even younger talent that has the potential to fill in around those guys in Miles (I haven't completely given up hope after his playoff showing), Hayward and Tomic (ages 23, 20 and 23).

AK's contract comes off the books and we're finally in the position to add another piece, and then the year after that we finally lose Memo (though I would love to trade him for an expiring deal this year and have both of those guys coming off the books this summer). Hopefully Miles/Hayward prove adequate at the 2, AK re-signs for a bargain deal, and we have the flexibility to chase our missing 5 next offseason.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I think the Jazz have had a very nice offseason too. As much as I fun on the Jazz, that they are a perennial playoff team with the talent they can attract is pretty damn amazing. The only problem is who can they lure to Utah with their cap space next year?

That's the tough part. I was actually looking at salaries for next year and they're not going to have the $ that I thought. Basically they're looking at the midlevel again, and that's pretty much it. I wish there was some way to dump Memo and clear him off the books as well.

I'd pitch in for an electronic billboard in the Bay Area which would contain 3 short clips running on a loop.

              1. Okur hitting the game winner against The Spurs.

              2. Andres Biedrens morphing into Satan.

              3. Jannero Pargo thumbing his nose at new owner Peter Guber. (This would have to be generated in an obvious dubbing of several interviews taken completely out of context)

(I have no love for Pargo incidentally it would just make the salaries work and he'd be a suitable backup for D-Will.)

Mike James wants to play for the Utah Jazz. Told me so at golf outing (Bethpage Red Course) for his charity foundation
                From Chris Sheridan.

Don't be surprised if it happens. That move would go a long way to making Ronnie Price actually look like a decent option as a back-up PG, so it'd be a solid PR move.
