If you had drafted last year with the top HS prosepcts in the draft, you would have drafted Wiggins and Parker and Randle in the Top5. IOW, not much has changed and HS scouting is pretty good. It usually goes bad when you draft a 7-footer who is not ready. Thus my comment about those 7-footers you mentioned and you can add in Kwame Brown, maybe even Kanter, who nobody had seen play except for 2 years prior as a HS player. So the scouting on Exum should be pretty good because point guards are easier to evaluate at that level than 7-footers.

Yes, Wiggins, Parker and Randle haven't moved much from what one would have thought a year ago. Having said that, the Harrison twins, James Young and Kasey Hill examples of guys who would have been rated much higher directly out of HS. Embiid is an example of a guy who would have been rated quite a bit lower than he should have been based on High School scouting.

Ideally, these guys would have to stay 2-3 years in order to get a better read on them. I think many experts/scouts give these guys a pass for their poor play in their 1st year because they're "just freshmen" and still have "upside" and they are just a year removed from when they were thought of so highly out of HS. Marcus Smart is a good example of this. Despite the fact that he was better this year than his freshman season, his stock actually dropped after his sophomore year. Harrison Barnes is another - after a pedestrian freshman season, it was hard to know where to rate him, where after he followed that up with another mediocre sophomore season, it became a bit more clear there was a good chance he just wasn't very good.

Well, as Grace mentioned, this injury thing cost him the #1 overall. He may not even go top 5. If the injury isn't a long term problem and he believes he can come back next year and get that #1 overall, that might be a reason he'd go back to KU.

I'd say that scouting out of high school for the NBA is not very good, except for the top couple of recruits. I'm open to being shown that I'm wrong, but they seem to get the top few right most years with the smaller and wing players. Maybe I'm mis-remembering.

Unbelievable that, but for the Trey 3 to beat Orlando, we'd be sitting in 3rd position for the lottery. Not much chance that Boston or LAL win another game. But aren't you excited about the Utah vs LAL game comming up? Will someone pull a Golden State and sit their best players? Both teams? Looks like it will be the the "must lose game of the season."

Don't count Orlando out of winning another game. Props to them for playing hard late in the season. They are tied with Washington right now in the 4th. Boston tied with Charlotte in the 3rd. But Boston has been great at playing poorly in the 4th lately.
