You'll be on a motorcycle at that speed. I'm way slower than that going up the Alpine Loop.

Here's another picture from the Bend ride. Shows Mt. Bachelor, moon hovering above it, and the long, relentless, although not overly steep, grind up the initial 21-mile climb. Taken while riding, so not a lot of chance for fancy composition.

That's funny. I would like to see that.

All I can say is: "OUCH!"

This whole thread is a double edged sword! LOVED the reports guys....HATED to read it and NOT be there! OUCH...that hurts to read of the great time had by all.

Sure wish I could have been there. I am encouraged though...it sounds like the rolling CUF ball is rolling on and gaining momentum. Also, I'm excited about the interim ride just before the UoW game. Alpine Loop is a great ride/climb. If Lebowski is involved...I'm surprised he isn't trying to swing the Nebo Loop! That ride is a walk in the park!

Will hope to be in on the interim ride and next summer ride as well. Good job everyone, enjoyed the pics!

I've been wondering what you've been up to lately, Borg. Haven't heard much from you all summer. Hope you can make the ride. Been riding much?

My schedule is already pretty full for September/October so the Alpine Loop ride is going to be our official Fall CUF cycling event this year. Hopefully we can resurrect the Nebo Loop ride next year. We started a thread for the Alpine Loop ride:

Hey there mtnbiker! Haven't been up to much...and my riding time has seriously taken a significant drop off this summer. You need to get me going again, or I will be even worse for the Alpine Loop.

Trying to do more running this summer as I'm involved in a running event come fall. I'm not a runner, so it's a real challenge.

Let's get out on a ride again so you can inspire me to step it up a notch!

I think I'd be up for an Alpine Loop ride. Do we have a thread on this yet?

EDIT: Never mind...just found it. Yeah, it was hidden on the sticky.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

For anyone considering the ride, here are our ride reports from last year's Tour in Bend, OR. Great ride and good reports.

I just went back and read through a good chunk of this thread. The ride reports were awesome and brought back some good memories. We have had some great times on these CUF/CS rides. It's a shame that we haven't put one together for the last several years.

The reason why I went searching for this thread is that I was in Bend Oregon a couple of weeks ago for a week's vacation. Actually my family stayed in sun river, which steelblue mentioned in his ride report. Such a great area.

We spent a couple of evenings in bend, one of which was in the old mill district where we all dined together on the Friday night before our big ride. While walking around the river trail area we passed by the Pastini Pasteria, where most of us met and broke bread together. I proudly pointed out the restaurant to my wife and kids, who were trying hard to hide just how impressed they were with being introduced to such an historic, iconic, storied location.

I also looked for the bike shop where topper rented his bike and bellavella's phone met its demise. But sadly, unless my internal GPS is off, it now appears to be a Hokema sewing machine store.

I also did some riding while up there. I didn't quite have enough time to re-create our cascade lakes highway loop, so we instead did an out and back ride up to a waterfall in the Paulina lake area. Gorgeous place and a great ride up to the top. About a 12 mile climb with 2,200 feet or so of elevation gain. Not insanely difficult, but enough to make you feel like you earned your lunch afterward.

We had hoped to also ride around crater lake, but were disappointed to learn that the loop was still mostly snowed in. But the scenery helped to dull the disappointment a little bit.

Fun week in a great area with some decent riding and hiking. Also brought back some good memories of getting to hang out with some of you fine folks.

That's pretty cool, thanks for the photos and memories. I'm still using the water bottle I bought at that bike shop. It would be nice to do another group ride. My wife and I were in Mammoth Lakes a week ago, near BigPiney's stomping grounds, and there were a lot of cyclists there, although the roads seem fairly narrow. It might be a decent spot for a group ride, if Piney knows of a reasonable loop, not those monster climbs he used to post about.

In the better than late than never category, I would love to try to make a ride this time. I echo the request to avoid monster climbs, however, as gravity is not my firend.
                            PLesa excuse the tpyos.

If a Central Oregon ride happens again, I'm more than happy to give advice about your stay here. I am a little intimidated by the serious riders here. But if there are plans for a non-lung-exploding ride, I'm happy to come along.
