To make the NCAA tournament we have to lose 3 or less conference games (beat St Mary's once, not have anyone injured in both losses to Gonzaga, and have no Portland-type losses). Barring a miracle or winning the conference tournament we are NIT bound. This team will suffer at least 2 WTF losses in conference.

Sorry but that's not enough.

We have to win 3 of 4 vs Gonzaga and St. Marys, and get to the conference title game (beating one of those teams again along the way). Even then, might not be enough. Our RPI is 131 right now. The WCC is a shit show:

Gonzaga- 5
St. Marys- 25
Portland- 130
BYU- 131
Loyola Marymount- 190
San Diego- 209
San Francisco- 218
Pacific- 239
Pepperdine- 251
Santa Clara- 318


Oh and the remainder of the Non-con schedule:

I don't think that's necessarily a given. Even the team that lost to USC and Illinois would have beaten UVU. There has been some improvement since the UVU low point, and so far, everyone in the WCC outside of Gonzaga, SMC and BYU are worse than UVU. The loss Saturday sucked because it came so close, but there were also some positives in that game, and Illinois I think is going to turn out to be pretty good. They're almost top 40 in the rpi right now and that won't be hurt playing in the Big 10 unless they tank, which I don't expect.

Nah, BYU lost two road games last year that were horrible all with veteran leadership. This current team just doesn't have enough outside shooting to compete yet.

I really hope not, but it's definitely possible. SMC, Zags, their usual flat game against USD or similar, and some other head-scratcher. I just hope they pull out the win against LMU on the afternoon of New Year's Eve for the Public family girls' first BYU basketball game.
