I'm not sure what your point is about playing with Jabari, Ennis and Smart, but who wouldn't be better playing with guys like that?
My point is mainly he is a better player at the distribution end, rather than a player like Ennis or Smart who can carry a team by being the point of distribution. I would feel more comfortable with a reliable and consistent point guard, and then somebody to whom you can dish the ball in the paint, so that you could have him roam the perimeter or mid-range. BYU tries to use him in places which aren't his strength. When he goes inside, he's most likely to be fouled or to be. IOW, BYU tries to use him in more capacities than for which he is well-equipped.

I thought he was listed at 6'5". (BTW, Charles Barkley was often considered only 6'4", not your point I know).

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Guys, what Topper is trying to say is that Haws isn't a top 7 pick in the NBA draft. Let's give Topper some credit, because he's right about that.

        lol.

And if Haws were the #1-ranked player in the nation, the Topper would no doubt be claiming that he isn't as good as previous #1 players.

True Haws cant carry a team. 24 of a teams 45 points in the first half is not very good.

          • That was fun to watch that 10 min stretch where Haws just exploded. I have to say though, it's not like I expect McCann to go all Wrubell and scream orgasmically, but both he and Nixon were pretty underwhelmed by the shooting exhibition IMO. We have been spoiled by some fantastic shooters in Provo I guess.

He is able to carry against UOP, but against Gonzaga? He hasn't fared too well against a team with a good defense.

Jimmer gave me more confidence in his ability to have a monster game, such as those games against the Aztecs, or against the U, when BYU needed them. For example, in the Portland game, Jimmer would have carried us over the top single-handedly.

Tyler Haws scored 48 points in the Portland game. That is highest number scored by any D-1 player this season.

                You sir, are an idiot.

True. Haws isn't the National Player of the Year. Another fine point by Topper.

                    23 points on 15 shots.

But at the end of the game, where was he?

I am an idiot for believing scoring alone isn't sufficient if you don't score at critical times to win the game? Is the only thing necessary to score points that don't contribute to a win?

He also played in a triple over-time game. Most college players haven't played in such a long game, and most players don't have a team so incompetent at times.

Was it last year he scored 1 point against Gonzaga? BYU lost easily against Gonzaga as I remember. (Yes, it was close until Gonzaga pulled away).

Yes, as a sophomore recently returned from a mission he scored 1 point against Gonzaga. As a junior with a year under his belt, he scored 23 points on 15 shots against a team that has lost 2 times in the last 10 years in their building. If anything, I'm impressed with the improvement and adjustments he made to ensure that wouldn't happen again.

But as DH has reminded us, you are correct that Haws isn't a lottery pick. Kudos.

As long as we are clear about that. Kudos.

                              • I think I'm figuring it out. Topper is disappointed in Haws because he has not yet (and probably won't) become the 4th face on the BYU Mt. Rushmore of hoops. No wonder he is so disappointed. Those players only come along ever 25 years or so.
