For truly the first time in his career I lament his not playing for the Jazz. He would be a fantastic and calming addition to this psychophrenic team."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Detmer had not played in more of his team's games midway through his first season than Miller has in his whole career.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI love the irony of Ute fans using Millers longevity as a milestone. Well, that does it. I had been on the fence of this whole BYU vs. Utah thing but now, reading this thread and seeing this post's impeccable logic in particular, I guess I just have to concede the greatness that is Utah! Look, a basketball player played in more games than a football player! And, gosh, the same basketball player is eleventh all time in assists in the NBA! What more proof could anyone ever present to show the superiority of Utah? Could it be any plainer? My only regret is that it took Miller 15 years to rise to eleventh to allow me to see this truth.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostDetmer had not played in more of his team's games midway through his first season than Miller has in his whole career.
But seriously, ladies and germs, isnt this whol line of argument a bit silly?PLesa excuse the tpyos.

He's the only serious one in the thread.Last edited by creekster; 02-10-2012, 03:24 PM."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Yes, Ty Detmer rarely playing his entire career is exactly the same as Andre Miller playing 34.2 mpg and starting over 90% of the games played in his career.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI love the irony of Ute fans using Millers longevity as a milestone. Easy there, monkey. First, my logic is fine. My point wasn't that a basketball player (Miller) had played more games than a football player (Detmer), it was that he had sat out of far less games, even though his sport has 5 times as many games. That is a pretty reasonable response to a comparison made of the two player's careers.Originally posted by creekster View PostWell, that does it. Second, no one made any claims of Utah's superiority based on Andre Miller's stellar career, though I can certainly see how you could reach that conclusion.
Finally, of course it's silly, that's what makes it fun."In conclusion, let me give a shout-out to dirty sex. What a great thing it is" - Northwestcoug

Agreed. Dre has been a very good and underrated player. I suppose maybe he'll get some media coverage here when he enters the top 10, but I don't see any reason for it at 11.Originally posted by pellegrino View Postrivalries aside, this is a good thing for Andre Miller. I'm surprised that it hasn't even been mentioned in any SLC media outlets. Maybe they're waiting for him to break the top 10?So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I agree. 11 isn't really a significant number. When he reaches the top 10, it will get reported.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostAgreed. Dre has been a very good and underrated player. I disagree. Wallace Stegner could have been Utah's Faulkner, but you won't see anything commemorating him. The ony people who get any credit are LDS, and if you critiqued or were somehow opposed to LDS institutions you will be systematically precluded from the Utah history books no matter how great you may be.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI agree. 11 isn't really a significant number. since I brought this up, I wasn't expecting a two page sports story. I would have settled for a tweet, simply stating that Miller surpassed Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens on the NBA all assist list. I'd bet a lot of Utah Fans aren't aware that he is ahead of notable names like a Jerry West, Terry Porter, Nate Archibald, or Bob Cousy in all time assists.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostAgreed. I would have taken him from day 1. Unfortunately when he was drafted the Jazz were at the top of the league and had no chance of getting him. Even so, we didn't do all that bad in that draft in picking up AK-47.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostFor truly the first time in his career I lament his not playing for the Jazz. Miller's 15 year career > Detmer's 15 year career. Even you can't deny this.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI love the irony of Ute fans using Millers longevity as a milestone. One knock against Miller is that he could have come to Utah had he wanted. When Stockton retired, Miller's contract with Cleveland was up and he was offered a contract to come play for the Jazz. But he was too afraid to be the guy who followed a HoF player and instead, signed with the Clippers.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostI would have taken him from day 1.
