He would be smart to take the job. UNLV is certainly not going to let him use the offer to increase his salary. One of the major appeals of hiring Rice was that he was cheap. He also hasn't done well enough to merit a raise either.

It certainly seems like the right thing to do is to take the South Florida job rather than be fired next year by UNLV.

Rice had a worse team this year with more talent than Krystkowiak. You can mock Utah for being a 5 seed in the NIT and for the pathetic first round loss, but at least they made the NIT.

Even though I'm not sold on Larry Krystkowiak, I'm taking him over Rice.

UNLV is an impossible job. The fans expect a Sweet 16 run or better more often than not.

Top 5 job in the west and a great place to recruit too. It isn't an impossible job, it really is a great basketball gig. Only jobs in the west that I would say are clearly better are UCLA and Arizona.

Not sure you are right about the "more talent" bit. UNLV lost its two best players from a year ago, including the #1 draft pick (LOL), and didn't replace them with equal talent.

If by talent you mean athleticism you may be right. But UNLV does not have a roster of great basketball players.

No way. Stanford maybe, Oregon has only been to the tourney in back to back years 3 times. They are growing, and I like what they are doing but Oregon is in the infancy of being a ball school if they can get there. UNLV is a bonified power.
