Slandering a man who is going to other schools newspapers and talking about our players, sorry I have no problem with that.Originally posted by Mr. Crimson View PostMore nonsense from MP Funk. Best player on this years team will be George Matthews followed by Jiggy. If he hadn't screwed them up, the two best players would have been Will Clyburn and JJ Obrien. The common thread is they are all Boylen recruits. Hmmmmm.
But the bigger issue is why you feel ok slandering a good man like Jim Boylen. You've never held a basketball or played the sport. Seriously, worse than a Zoob. Without class or decency.
So Boylen had 4 good recruits in his time here, the rest were downright terrible. Let's lineup the good recruits and the bad recruits, the bad will far outweigh the good. Not to mention there are so many Guiot's in the bunch that no one could reasonably argue deserved even a walk on spot at Utah.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Complete list of Boylen recruits:
Jordan Cyphers
Chris Hines
Josh Sharp
Jace Tavita
Jason Washburn
Shawn Glover
Marshall Henderson
Jeremy Olsen
Matt Reed
Jay Watkins
Chris Kupets
Dominque Lee
Josh Watkins
Will Clyburn
Anthony DiMaria
Preston Guiot
J.J. O'Brien
George Matthews
Complete failures: Cyphers, Tavita, Glover, Henderson, Reed, Kupets, Lee, DiMaria, and Guiot. That right there represents 50% of the players that Boylen recruited at Utah.
Players who haven't improved under Boylen, have severe limitations, and/or borderline busts: Hines and Washburn.
Players who showed actual DI talent: J.J. O'Brien, Will Clyburn, Jay Watkins, and Josh Watkins (I'm tempted to put Watkins in the borderline bust category unless he shows this year he can actually pass).
Unknowns: Sharp, Matthews, amd Jeremy Olsen
So of the 18 players he recruited only 4 have any shown they belong in DI basketball. Of those 4, 3 of them were JC transfers. Do you really want Utah relying on JC transfers?
Not to mention Boylen sold out the future of our program to win now and made them worse. He had to go and his pathetic recruiting was first on the list of why he had to go.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

You said "So we went from Utah's tradition and being in the Pac-12 will get a better coach to taking any coach." I asked how LK is "any coach." You responded that LK wasn't anyone's list but Hill's. Which lists are you talking about, other than Hill's or the fans'? As much as I don't like Marshall Henderson, he belonged in D1 and he showed it despite all of the Snow College assertions to the contrary.
Also, I would move Glover and Kupets into the borderline bust category from the complete failure category.

I agree with you re Henderson. But no matter how you look at him he's a Boylen failure.Originally posted by New Mexican Disaster View PostAs much as I don't like Marshall Henderson, he belonged in D1 and he showed it despite all of the Snow College assertions to the contrary.

Kupets and Glover were solid contributers on a team that loved their coach and the game of basketball so much they established his destiny at Utah on an irrevocable course with that memorable performance against the U. of San Diego, one of the worst teams in all of D-I basketball. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Boylen recruited a kid with known character and maturity issues and tried to love him into appropriate behavior. Fail.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI agree with you re Henderson. There's nothing wrong per se with recruiting kids who have made mistakes. Sometimes a school in Utah's position has to take recruiting risks. I'm just saying that when the kid transfers after one year and gets into an embarrassing public argument with the coach about why it happened (the coach spreading rumors that the kid is an alchoholic etc.), this kid goes in the category of coaching failures. There's nothing about this episode that speaks positively about Boylen or mitigates his collosal failure on almost every level that a DI coach is expected to perform. Once I saw him talking to Las Vegas papers about JJ O'Brien's future plans I had seen enough of not only Jim Boylen's coaching deficiencies but also his character deficiencies.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostBoylen recruited a kid with known character and maturity issues and tried to love him into appropriate behavior. Krystko is having to do exactly that because of the mass exodus of players following the firing of Boylen.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostDo you really want Utah relying on JC transfers?Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."

Before the firing I kept hearing that Utah's tradition and being in the Pac-12 would attract great coaches. Instead, we ended up with Krystko, and now I keep hearing that Boylen was so bad anyone will be better. Quite a change.I'm not thrilled about the Krysto hire, but I would take almost anyone over Boylen.Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."

Although I disagree, I understand how you and the Comrade see this. May we all be really happy about Utah hoops within a year or two.Originally posted by Flattop View PostMPFunk said he would accept anyone but Boylen:

One thing that might sort of be in Krystko's favor is that there won't be much early success for him to become a victim of.Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."
