With Pitt falling last night the best Jimmer can do is equal Miller's feat of knocking two number one seeds out of the tournament. I think if he can pull that off we Ute fans will agree that they are equals.

Yeah and 20 years from now you guys will have a superstar game changing player that carries a bunch of scrubs to a top 10 ranking and becomes an international rockstar and when he goes off for 51, some asshat BYU fan will say "until he scores 52 I can't agree he's as good as Jimmer".Originally posted by DU Ute View PostWith Pitt falling last night the best Jimmer can do is equal Miller's feat of knocking two number one seeds out of the tournament. I'm just making the comparison based on accomplishments. If Jimmer wins his next 4 NCAA tourney games he still won't have as many wins as Andre. But as Santos says, they can't be compared because Andre played on good teams and Jimmer plays on bad ones.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostYou've only seen Jimmer play once. LOL...

I am only concerned with amazing performances against teams seeded #1 in the NCAA Tournament, not piling it on against some middle of the road team from a mid-major conference. Please try to stay on point so we can make a fair comparison. Up until about midway through this season I had no idea that Andre was almost **singlehandedly** responsible for that incredible Utah run. He was a great player, but that is certainly not how I remember it.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostUtah's incredible wins over Arkansas, Arizona and NC were mostly because of Andre taking over every aspect of games, including defense. He alone annihilated Arkansas' "40 minutes of hell". In all three games he'd repeatedly rebound defensively and go end to end, scoring or creating points. The guy was incredibly strong physically as well as a great basket ball player. He was more Magic Johnson whereas Jimmer is more Gail Goodrich, but personally I think a guard like Andre would be a perfect antedote for Jimmer.
My personal theory is that the 1999 team was better until Andre suffered a nasty fall in the WAC tournament against UTEP and put the brakes on his abandon.
Yes, Andre had more help. But unless BYU makes the Final Four this year it will not have played anything close to the great teams that Andre almost singlehandedly beat.
I also doubt that Jimmer will be picked as high in the NBA draft as Andre was (8th overall). So unless I'm wrong, NBA execs disagree with Viking.
Santos' Jimmer was a better college basketball player was more defensible than Viking's Jimmer is "simply a better ball player than Andre."
Finally, will Jimmer have 12 NBA seasons of double figures scoring and 6+ assists?
And don't think we didn't notice how you are not-so-subtly shifting your argument to NBA career. Ha."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Yeah and Trent Dilfer was a better QB than Dan Marino.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI'm just making the comparison based on accomplishments. The fact you guys are hanging on to this silly Andre thing just makes this THIRD ROUND victory even sweeter.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostI am only concerned with amazing performances against teams seeded #1 in the NCAA Tournament, not piling it on against some middle of the road team from a mid-major conference. He also is now requiring a final four run. He's only shifting to the NBA comparison to be give Jimmer a fighting chance to equal Miller. Unless Jimmer can somehow win his next four games he will come up short in the college category and will have to hope for a long productive NBA career to measure up. I know you all are hopeful, but as many of you have recognized, even Jimmer can only do so much. It would probably be wise to let this argument die for now. Maybe Jimmer will do well enough in the NBA that this thread will be bump worthy in another 12 years or so.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostUp until about midway through this season I had no idea that Andre was almost **singlehandedly** responsible for that incredible Utah run. So you have officially conceded the "best college player" argument? There have been about 100 college players in the last 20 years that have started on teams that went further than Andre in the tournament. So Andre's not in the top 100 of college players of the last 20 years? And if Jimmer loses the next game, there will be more than 500 in the last 20 years that went further in the tournament. He's not in the top 500? Very sound logic.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostHe's only shifting to the NBA comparison to be give Jimmer a fighting chance to equal Miller. What!?!? No, I'm saying it will take a Jimmer miracle to even be Miller's equal in the college category.
