  • The pac 12 isn't going to win any basketball national chapionships this year, but it's insanely competitive. Lots of parity.

Oregon is very well coached, but hasn't been dominating. Nor does it have any real hotshots. Its leading scorer is a freshman who was a three star and probably drew no interest from, say, UCLA.

Utah is a better job than Creighton. So how in the fuck is wanting Dana Altman such an unrealistic expectation in 2007. He was actually a guy that was talked about frequently, but Hill went after Boylen instead. He was a realistic candidate.
It wasn't 2007, but in 2005 after Majerus left. Altman wanted a 10-year deal for a three-fold reason -- we were on probation, he would have been replacing a legend and once you got past Bogut and Hawkins, there wasnt any young talent at all at Utah, and he would need some security to ride out the rough year or two that was quite likely to come.

That would have been a great move. Can you imagine what the last seven years would have been like had we staked Dana Altman Bogut, RunDMC, Justin Hawkins, and Marc Jackson.

But a 10 year contract is just the kind of request that would scare Hill away. He doesn't want egotistical celebrity coaches. I think he feels like he got a belly full of that with Majerus.

Among today's college coaches, does anyone have a 10-year contract?

          • I'm reminded that this cascade of transfers that has effectively killed our program started back in 2006 with Giacoletti losing Hawkins and Cheney. Both Giacoletti and Boylen were left with reasonable stakes and recruited well enough. I'm totally disgusted with those guys.

Who cares how long it is if the buy out is not back breaking. I bet there's more than one 10 year contract out there.

Is Altman viewed as an egotistical celebrity coach? He isn't here, but perhaps I'm too close to the situation.

I am just wondering -- if the apocryphal story about Altman demanding a 10-year contract is true, and 10-years contracts are relatively unheard of, then I don't think a demand for one in 2008 from a Creighton coach with a decent but not world-beating resume (or whenever it was) can really be taken too seriously.

We gave a 7-year contract to Ray Giacoletti. If we ended up passing on Altman over 3 damn years for Ray Ray, it is just more evidence that Hill needs to go before he has the opportunity to hire any more coaches at the University of Utah.

I was just wondering if that's really true about Altman. There's a lot of folklore surrounding coaching hires and candidates at Utah.

I'll ask him at Oregon Club next week if I go. It would be apropos with Utah on the schedule next week.

Can you also ask him to please take it easy on Utah? At the very least, let him know that a person on the internet that has had lunch with you a few times and has chosen the Ducks are his secondary team would like him to take it easy on Utah.

Ask him how he feels about the forest painted on the floor too.

Seriously, it would be terribly surprising if he asked for such a contract, now that I think about it.

                            • Nice win against the rival Utes! Colorado has taken a nose dive, they were ranked to start the year right?

This loss might put them on the bubble. When rivals play you throw the records out. I think I might be the first person to ever say that.
