Great game, I also had the opportunity to sit in the DDD section. Art I did have on a BYU jacket. So you may have seen me.

    A few thoughts:

    1. The dumpsters that the Utes had on the floor shooting smoke for their intro was an alltime classic. Seriously one of the greatest intros in sports. Utah might have the worst marketing department of any college in the country.

    2. Jimmer was a amazing people can call him a once in a lifetime player and all that and they would be right. But this BYU team will still be very good after he leaves just like they were before he got here.

    3. Not sure why everyone calls utah a young team most of their core are juniors. JJ Obrien is a athletic but has a horrible jumper. Similar player to Charles Abouo. I love Boylen after the game saying that Obrien was the best player in the state of California last year and he is sticking by that. Like people were questioning him. He is posturing to save his job by trying to show that he can recruit.

    4. When Jo. Watkins committed Boylen compared him to Jimmer and said he would love to see that matchup, whoops.

    5. The Postgame on the Ute station was classic. They were very impartial until they had Clyburn on. First of all Clyburn is dumber than dog shit. Second of all this was the exhange between Riley, Checketts and Clyburn (paraphrasing):

Riley: "Coach Boylen put you on Jimmer in the 2nd half and you really seemed to give him fits and limit his chances, what did you do differently?"

Clyburn: "Yeah we knew he couldn't stay hot forever and coach thought my length would really help. I think my length really bothered him and that he was surprised that I was quick enough to stay with him"

Checketts: "Yeah you held him to half his total in the first half, I would say it worked well"

    CLyburn: "Yeah, really well"

Riley: "What type of player is Jimmer"

    Clyburn: "Good"

Checkets: "You had to work hard on both ends tonight did guarding Jimmer tire you out and affect you on the offensive end?"

Clyburn: "hardest I have ever had to play"

    6. Love all the national pub Jimmer is getting. But more importantly we know by now that Jimmer is going to get his but its the other guys that give this team a chance to be special. Noah, Jackson, Davies have all had great years.

    7. The defense in the first half by BYU was atrocious. We could not stay in front of their guards, our bigs were not helping. Just an awful half of defensive basketball. When we switched to a zone Utah looked lost. They honestly run zero offensive sets. Basically its isolation try to beat your guy off the dribble if you can't then reset and try and again.

    8. Boylen should be fired just for how out of shape his team is. In the first half Foster is asking for a sub I saw him look at the bench 3 minutes in to the game and ask for a sub. Washburn comes in and 4 minutes later is pulling on his jersey looking at Boylen calling for a sub. Boylen yells at him and waives him off. Then in the timeout Washburn had his hands on his knees and never even joined the huddle. That is embarrassing that two D-1 players can not go hard for 3 and 4 minutes at a time.

    9. Finally It was nice to see a large BYU contigent at the game they definitely represented. Also only one altercation when a ute fan grabbed a BYU fans flag. But overall Ute fans looked defeated and like the ute players they did not put up much of a fight. Even have the MUSS was BYU fans.

He put 15 points on him in 15 minutes of work.

      Well down, Mr. Clyburn.

Not only that but Jimmer went by Clyburn like he was wearing cement shoes on every single play.

Another thing I forgot to add I love the moral high ground Ute fans on UF.n were taking saying that Rose should be reprimanded for showing poor sportsmanship by leaving Jimmer in. Even Boylen was pissed when asked about saying no comment and actually asking Rose about it during the pregame handshake.

Dave Rose said he had no clue how many points Jimmer had that last check he had 36 but he does not check the stats at every timeout, Dave Rice does. He also said he put him back in Because Utah had gone on a 10-0 run, even though they were up 20 they do not play for another 8 days and he said you do not want to win a game and leave with a sour taste in your mouth by playing poorly down the stretch.

Also DDD can verify when Jimmer hit about 40 I believe Utah actually quit putting his points up and then when he was subbed out they kept his number and points off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game even when he came back in. Classic.

You guys were loud during the game; BYU represented well. It was difficult listening to tell which team had scored or made a good play based on crowd reaction. It was crowd reaction, then either a measured response from Wrubell, or Wrubell and Durrant going freak fest about some Jimmer play. It was very entertaining listening.

Like GNer, I'm happy Rose put him back in. I live for the reaction.

Dont know about Washburn, but Foster has had health problems all year long. I think if the team were better, Foster wouldn't have to play as many minutes as he does.

Complaining Ute fans can't have it both ways. IF Rose was classless and left Jimmer in for the record, why did he pull Jimmer right before setting it? There was no doubt in anybodys mind that Jimmer could have scored 50 points last night. Freakin' Utes, can't play well enough to keep it closer than 20 so Jimmer could have set the half-century mark.

              And the BYU Defense sucked.

The best part of the game were the BYU fan cheers. They didn't need anything pithy or clever, just a howl of triumph every time BYU scored. Over and over.

I have to admit that I laughed out loud when Ute fans started chanting "block that kick". What I want to know though is did they ever do the Rocky IV? You know where they slowly realize they're seeing greatness and they begin to stand and do the slow clap for Jimmer progressing to a frenzied mass cheer.

Another interesting tidbit from the Utah Ute college tradition crime files: apparently they do the tomahawk chop during one of their cheers. The entire student section doing the tomahawk chop, albeit to different music. I think they may have been chanting "Utah"

                  Roll Utes. War Hawk.

ain't that the truth. Over and over they'd let them get uncontested shots. It makes me worried for when we play better teams. If we can't defend better, we won't win much in March. I get the feeling that Rose just gives up on the defensive side of the ball and just figures we can out run them and out score them. That's frustrating.

One of the U students next to me made some crack about the WCC (but not loud enough that anyone more than two seats away could hear). I simply reminded him that the University of San Diego plays in the WCC, and I didn't hear anymore about it.

...and Portland. There was a faux hawk wearing fellow in the very corner of the MUSS holding up some clever WCC conference sign that I didn't get a good look at. I think the other side of his sign read "you couldn't get into the WAC." I wanted to tell him that simply wasn't true, but I would've had to have walked across a couple sections of seating. My experience last night was nothing short of extremely hospitable. I was down in the lower bowl, section D, row 16, sitting next to a lovely Ute family with an adorable adopted child. The Ute fans I encountered handled themselves with quiet dignity. Had my family attended with me, I'm positive they would have left the arena without a single drop of beer on them.

Oddly enough, all reports indicate that the Ute fans didn't even give him a lukewarm round of applause. Contrast that to Arizona last year where the fans seemed to appreciate what they had just witnessed and gave him a standing O. Speaks volumes.
