Agree with both. Unfortunately, if the rumored 2-sub par seasons = no payout clause is accurate, Hill will have to keep Boylen around through the end of the MWC conference tournament

This has got to be the reason why Wyo canned Heath before the end of the season. They know no one will give Laramie a chance if the Utah job is open.

I think that rumor is not true. Someone posted Boylen's contract and it was not in the contract.

Shouldn't that contract be a matter of public record? That's probably how they got a copy of it.

Utah is not going to keep a head coach for an additional year simply because they can't afford to buy him out. That's absurd.

Absolutely it is a matter of public record, it is just whether or not this is his current contract.

They would owe him $2 million paid out over a number of years. It's not a big deal, and that means it's less than $2 million in today's dollars. People act like paying it out over years is a bad thing. It's a good thing.

Why not go after Juddy? Or is his past 7 years association with women tainted him for a D1 men's team?

Juddy has got to be better than Boylen.

BTW, this article is a very good analysis of Boylen's foibles and failures:

The buyout also will be reduced by Boylen's salary in his next job. We are looking at something less than $2 million over the next 3 years. The maximum amount that Utah will be paying per month is just over 55K per month for the next 3 years that isn't completely cost prohibitive and that is the max we are paying.

The most irritating excuse is that this team is "young". It's not young. All the leaders are juniors, 25 games into the season. They've been playing ball nearly three years out of HS, and will be gone in little over a year and there will be a massive rebuilding job. This is the awful cyle of JUCO addiction. We've never recrutied anywhere near this many JUCOs as Boylen has.

Sure it is interesting but it is also very inaccurate in his post 1998 portrayal of the program under Majerus. To call 1999 through 2004 "floundering program" and "mediocre" is just dead wrong.

There's a lot of real nit-picky stuff in Boylen's contract that is nowhere to be found in Kyle's. Especially in the area of compliance. Contrary to what I had been told, however, there's nothing overt in that contract that limits what kinds of associations Boylen can keep in recruiting (AAU kingmakers, shoe companies, etc.). Of course, a lot of that nit-picky stuff could be have hidden inferences as well.

                            Some interesting things in there.

                            4. Effectively apply experience in recruiting, training and
                            coaching of student-athletes;
Anyone want to make a case that Boylen breached this part of his contract and the University is excused from performing?

This is also a strange contractual item:

                            11. Be a disciplinarian but be fair, sympathetic and protective

So, is Billy Gillespie the #1 guy on the list for my fellow Utefans? Is it worth reaching out to a mid-to-high profile coach of a program that is currently performing well just to see what interest there may be out there?
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
