I don't. But I wonder if its like the BCS National Championship where the voters are obligated to vote the winning team #1.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostDoes anyone really believe that a 9-9 in the Big East UCONN team is the best in teh country?Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. I recently learned here that the NCAA tournament does not determine the best team. Therefore, I do not know whether UConn is the best team in the country.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostDoes anyone really believe that a 9-9 in the Big East UCONN team is the best in teh country?Fitter. Chas Barkley looked like an unhappy camper after the game last night. His dome was glittering with nervous perspiration. Nobody likes to be made a fool of before a hundred million people. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

I love how SU in now the conference homer since his teams suck. You'd fit perfect in the South chanting SEC.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostChas Barkley looked like an unhappy camper after the game last night. I actually think that is worse. As I've said before, major college basketball has 300+ teams and major college football has 100+ teams. To compare apples to apples, Bronco needs an end of season ranking that is 1/3 of Rose's to be equal. Rose's 13 is equal to a 4. I suppose you could argue a 5. Either way, Rose's year this year is better in his sphere than anything Bronco has done. Even more impressive when you consider that the best basketball finish ever is worse than the best football finish.Originally posted by Jacob View Post15 in 2006

Yes, I guess he has done better than that.

This is a point worth mentioning, but I don't think it's as simple as all that. Football also has a ton of teams, but they are rightfully separated into FBS and FCS, knowing it the FCS teams will generally not be competitive with the FBS teams. Basketball could do the same and it wouldn't have affected BYU's ranking this year.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI actually think that is worse. I disagree. ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll have Butler at #2, VCU at #6, Marquette at #20, Richmond at #21. That's two above BYU and two below BYU but in the top 25 who are from the football FCS. In other words, BYU's ranking this year would be 11 instead of 13 based on pulling out the FCS teams ranked above them.Originally posted by woot View PostThis is a point worth mentioning, but I don't think it's as simple as all that. I don't think it is cut and dried but it is clear to anyone watching basketball that schools who would not be in the top division for football are competitive in basketball at the highest level. Therefore, BYU is appropriates competing against 3x as many teams for players, NCAA berths, and championships.

Indy always tries to float this too. Not really buying it. I might believe top 40 in BB is equivalent to top 25 in FB but not much more than that. There are probably not much more than the 120 FBS FB teams that we compete with in BB in terms of school size, facilities, fan base size, etc. In BB you add in maybe a couple more conferences and then a few more schools for a handful of other conferences (ie the Butlers, St Mary's, Xaviers) but you can't compare the whol 350.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI actually think that is worse. Sure, but any such divisions would not be based on whether their football team is FBS, obviously. Butler, Memphis, Gonzaga, and other traditionally good basketball programs belong in the highest classification regardless of what their football programs are doing. The trick would be to name more than 120 basketball programs that are players in the postseason with any degree of consistency. Maybe you could get up to 200, but I doubt it. Certainly not 300.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI disagree. ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll have Butler at #2, VCU at #6, Marquette at #20, Richmond at #21. I would say the bottom 30-40 for the 120 in football don't play in the post season with any degree of regularity either. So yeah you can reduce the 350 to 200 but you can also reduce the 120 to 80.Originally posted by woot View PostSure, but any such divisions would not be based on whether their football team is FBS, obviously.
