I think that is the opinion of most who have watched both play. I think Nick will be a good player but TJ is just a fabulous athlete in addition to being a skilled basketball player.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostA good friend of the family, who use to coach in college, can't say enough about TJ. Yep, I think I mentioned it earlier in the thread. If we're predicting based on potential, it's not uncommon to take the bigger more athletic guy.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think that is the opinion of most who have watched both play. I am confident BYU will land Dastrup, but is Brekkot Chapman entirely out of the question?Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostBYU ranked 8th in Jerry Meyers 2014 recruiting rankings.

Analyst from ESPN selects ten players from the HS class he thinks would form the best "team."
http://insider.espn.go.com/college-s...tball-recruitsC: Eric Mika (BYU)
Mika can score, run the floor, rebound and block some shots, and he is a terrific all-around center who plays with heart and a team-first mentality. On offense, he can be a legitimate low- or high-post scoring option. On defense, he has good mobility to battle inside for position or jump out and defend ball screens as he communicates as a back-line defender. He would also be skilled enough to play alongside Johnson if you wanted to play with a big lineup. Mika helped lead Lone Peak (Utah) to a No. 4 national ranking and a state championship as a senior. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I've become much more skeptical and less interested in high school recruiting evaluations over the last 10-15 years, but I have to admit, Mika is tempting to get excited about. But then I can't help thinking back to the last times I got excited about BYU basketball recruiting. For those of us who haven't seen him play, is there a good reason to think he'll be better than Chris Burgess, Garner Meads, Derek Dawes, Chris Miles, etc, etc, etc....?At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I think those of us who have seen him can give you reasons, but If you would have asked the same question about Meads or Burgess and listed a few other busts before them, there would have been plenty of "good" reasons why they would be different as well.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostI've become much more skeptical and less interested in high school recruiting evaluations over the last 10-15 years, but I have to admit, Mika is tempting to get excited about. Espn and the recruiting services are giddy about our class, not just Mika. Next year's may be even better.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostI've become much more skeptical and less interested in high school recruiting evaluations over the last 10-15 years, but I have to admit, Mika is tempting to get excited about. The 1990 recruiting class of Bradley, Roberts and Cuff was a top 5 recruiting class.

The optimistic side of me believes the Mika evaluation is more legit than the Burgess, Meads evaluations is that nowadays they play more competitive summer league games and even Lone Peak played a competitive high school season, so he's matched up against the best centers and so there's a better evaluation now. But those guys were only 10-15 years ago, and I don't know that it's changed that dramatically.

I don't think it's changed that dramatically. Even in the Burgress era evaluations were all about AAU summer play and the Adidas/Nike/Invitational camps. Those guys were also playing against everyone in the country before being ranked and evaluated.Originally posted by jay santos View PostThe optimistic side of me believes the Mika evaluation is more legit than the Burgess, Meads evaluations is that nowadays they play more competitive summer league games and even Lone Peak played a competitive high school season, so he's matched up against the best centers and so there's a better evaluation now. Mika won MVP of the inaugural West Coast Classic last night. Wish I would have known about it because I would have gone.
The East squad produced an unlikely MVP in BYU-bound forward Eric Mika, who scored a game-high 28 points and dominated both ends of the floor.http://seattletimes.com/html/highsch...allstar12.htmlThe West led 98-84 at the start of the fourth quarter before the East rallied.
Mika, who finished with five dunks and five blocks, was the workhorse for the East.
"If we would have played the whole game like we did in the fourth quarter, we would have dominated," Mika said.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
